HTC directionless

HTC / Leaf support is a total joke.
They havent even released WM6.1 for their handsets.

And for not even replying to ASA's query they should get smacked around big time

nokia maps is crap on my nokia! no routing no voice and the map does not rotate around, the 6110 win hands down. nokia maps vs route66 nokia loses that one.

I have a N82 and I use Nokia Maps. It's perfect. I have voice guided nav and because I have bluetooth handsfree in the car, it pauses the music, gives the voice prompt, then resumes the music again. Mine rotates around perfectly in both 2D and 3D. Apart from that, it's very accurate and easy to use.

Why not get a real GPS?

I have a 'real' GPS - but I don't carry it with me as often as I do with my phone, so it's nice to have a backup.

HTC is not guilty! Just use AmazeGPS. Free. It can even recalculate routes on the fly. Something that Nav4All (not free anymore... used to be) cannot do. Absolutely great software. I have used it on TyTN2 before.

Nav4All is still free - they're planning to make it not free in 2010, which still gives you a year and a half. And Nav4All does recalculate routes on the fly.

Yeah, they have. About two weeks ago, I think.

Did you load that inside a Java Client on your Tytn II ?

Cos it is a Java program... not really designed for Windows Mobile.

When I got my tytn2, there was a little glossy card in the box that told me where to go and download my free navigation software... Okay, it wasn't built in - it communicates with the server now and then - doesn't use much traffic, but it's still free navigation software - Leaf Locate - and it's actually pretty damn good I have to say.

So everyone comes off looking dumb here - the chap lodging the complaint for not seeing the glossy thing in the box, Leaf for not pointing it out, and ASASA for taking some idiot consumer at his word.

You are really outspoken for someone who can only base an opinion on reading an article! Do you know any more facts than the rest of us?

WM6.1 for the tytn2 is downloadable through htc.com e-club

Nav4All GPRS usage

Nav4All seems to be a reasonable alternative, but (like Leaf Locate) it downloads maps on the fly, so every time you recalculate a route it needs to get the data from the server. I don't know how much data it uses (I'm guessing only a couple of kb each time), but at R2 a meg it could get a bit pricey.

I have installed Nav4All on my Fujitsu-Siemens Loox it work fine, I have tried AmazeGPS and googlemaps they won't see the integrated GPS on the phone.
I have a prog called SPB GPRS monitor installed to monitor usage, this helped with the following. Yesterday I travled from Kyalami to Midrand north and back then to Randpark Ridge (Randburg) it used 310KB. Today Randpark Ridge back to Kyalami it used 86KB. I did not drive the route Nav4All said all the time, but changed direction a few times, Nav4all did automatically recalculate the route numerous times.

Must have been inside Java then. It worked.

I realized this week that AmazeGPS upgraded their software. It now gives a 3D view with real satellite footage. Absolutely amazing.
