HTC DROID DNA with 1080p screen, quad-core Krait debuts

Just as expected the HTC event in New York was all about the DROID DNA for Verizon. The long-rumored beast of a smartphone finally went official.
The DROID DNA offers a specs sheet similar to its Japanese sibling – the HTC J Butterfly. It features the first of its kind 5-inch 1080p S-LCD3 display and is powered by the Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset with a 1.5GHz quad-core Krait processor, Adreno 320 graphics and 2GB of RAM.

The rest of the specs include an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and 1080p video recording, a 2MP front snapper, LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Beats Audio and 16GB non-expandable internal memory. The DROID DNA is capable of wireless charging, while the battery capacity is 2020 mAh.
The DROID DNA runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean accompanied by the HTC Sense 4+ UI - a combo we already met with the One X+. It will hit the Verizon’s stores on November 21 for R1,759.69 ($200,) with pre-orders starting today.
There is nothing official on the international model yet, but we guess it should get announced at the upcoming CES or MWC at the latest.

That looks sexy. :o But 5" screen....? Couldn't they keep it at 4.3"? That's a much more hand friendly size... :(

HTC DROID DNA Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset performance examined in detail

We managed our usual set of benchmarks on the freshly announced HTC DROID DNA and its Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset. We were curious to see how the four Krait cores and the Adreno 320 GPU handle the FullHD screen screen.

The latest Qualcomm chipset didn’t disappoint and we saw the HTC DROID DNA post some pretty impressive scores in our tests. Its high-end rivals were often found lagging behind and at times they were feeling downright underpowered.

We started with the BenchmarkPi test, which reflects per-core CPU performance. As expected the Krait architecture helped the DROID DNA beat its quad-core rivals. More impressively, though, it managed to beat the LG Optimus G despite packing identical CPU cores as the LG flagship.

I was actually going through the benchmark results as well. It's a blisteringly fast piece of kit! Very impressive. But I really wish they hadn't scrapped a micro-SD slot on the phone. If not it would have been an instant upgrade from my Galaxy SII.

Although, only once I've actually held one in my hands could I make a final decision.
 
Another phone a no go because of no SD Card, I mean seriously what is like R5 to add on an SD Card slot?
 
Now that is a decent phone... Did they say it's $200... is that a pay in on contract or is that the cash price?

Agreed 100%. The rest of the phone specs are impressive but expandable storage is a must for me.

HTC DROID DNA launches on Verizon today, R1,784.85 ($199) on contract

The HTC DROID DNA, the manufacturer's first US smartphone with a 1080p screen, has become available through Verizon Wireless online and retail stores today, just as promised.

The device will set you back R1,784.85 ($199) on a two-year contract or you could opt to get it commitment-free for R5,372.48 ($599.) It's available starting today from both Verzion's website and its brick and mortar stores at the same price so it's up to you to decide how to get it.
The DROID DNA comes with a Super LCD3 screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and the impressive 440 ppi density. On the back there's an 8 MP snapper and the whole device is built into a polycarbonate unibody shell. On the inside there's a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro with 4 Krait CPU cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and 2 gigs of RAM.

The international version of the DROID DNA is codenamed HTC Deluxe. We saw it in a press image but can't say when it will become available.
