HTC Hero Review

Got the HTC Hero

Guys, I just got the HTC hero, and let me tell you, it's awesome!

The reviews / specs don't capture the sheer pleasure of using the phone. The Sense UI layered on top of Android is incredibly fast and responsive. The keyboard is also the best I've used on a phone (been through a few). This phone is definitely the closest I've seen to competing with the iPhone.

Got an HTC Hero yesterday ... VERY NICE ... takes a bit getting use to the interface. I LOVE THE application MARKET.

I also just got a Hero today.

Let me first say that I am the biggest iPhone fan around... I really wanted a 3Gs, but to do that, I'd have to wait until December for my MTN contract to expire, then port to Vodacom, and hand over R3k. I wasn't too happy about ANY of those things.

From everything I've read about the Hero, it really seems to be commonly accepted as "the next best thing to an iPhone." Well, let me tell you, after a few hours with my new Hero, I'd have to say that that label is a bit unfair... I am absolutely SMITTEN with this phone. It has the same WOW factor as when I first played with an iPhone, and I just cannot put it down!

Many of the negatives you will read about the phone both here and elsewhere are true. The biggest one being the speed of the device. It is *NOT* as swift in use as the iPhone, but it is by NO means the slouch that some reviewers make it out to be. I am perfectly content with the speed so far, but I will give it a few days before I dismiss the smack-talk completely.

As I write this, I can honestly say that the HTC Hero is FANTASTIC! I won't say it is better than the iPhone, because I don't believe it is, but at the same time, the iPhone is not without its problems either and I'd be hard-pressed to choose between these two handsets if you offered me the choice right now.

I see that rpm is selling his Hero in favour of a 3Gs now... Perhaps after a few weeks use, I will feel the same as him, who knows...
