HTC Hero

I want one too. From the first available direct service provider that has one.

I refuse to go through a Nashua or Autopage. I am on iTalk and everything was a pain to get sorted out (like BES service when I needed it)

I saw it listed as available at Cellucity in the Waterfront, Cape Town - I enquired if it was in stock, they said yes. If I remember correctly, it was R550 per month, no pay-in, on a Vodacom anytime 120 contract with 250mb data and 100 sms'es free per month.

[EDIT: me being stupid, sorry - it was the Magic I saw [/EDIT]

I emailed Leaf regarding availability and received this reply:

Good Day

I emailed the SALES team instead of the support team and asked them when they will have stock as I was getting conflicting reports from all over. He said that they "should" have stock the end of this week (i.e. today) don't know if they actually received the stock. It will obviously take a few days to reach the various companies such as Autopage or Nashua. But I don't think we'll have to wait till mid October.

JUST got a message that the stock is in SA and the HTC retail stores are stocked already.

Correct!

Leaf Cedar Square says "October", Leaf Vodaworld got in stock yesterday and they want R7 000 for it!

Now take one on contract or buy one...that is the question!

Contract.

No phone is worth paying that much cash for.

I learnt my lesson with the original HTC TyTn. Paid R7500 or thereabouts. Sold it for about half that 8 months later when I hated it (for the OS, not the actual phone).

I'm glad I spent the past month researching, reading and chatting to people, mostly in the UK, who simply love the Hero.

I'm going to get it.

True...no phone is worth it...but at the end of the day you are paying for it anyway, in the form of a phone subsidy plus increased monthly subscription or cash payin upfront.

I want one...but I currently have an iPhone 3G. I think I am just a slave to technology haha.

Bought my N81 cash (R4197) from Cell C back in Dec 2007,to this day i dont regret, its never let me down, and still looks as good as new (thanx to NOKIA when i took it in due to the ribbon being lose earlier this year they replaced the entire housing at no cost plus fixed the problem), buying a phone cash aint always a bad idea IMO, when firmware updates are released i dont wait for the network to release it since Cell C handsets are not branded or anything they are directly from NOKIA SA. :) So for a smartphone like HTC Hero that has this all new OS id get it cash from Leaf themselves or Cell C so that if anything goes wrong or if a new ROM is out you go directly to them and not Vodacrap (my network) or MTN.

Anyone that see's the phone on an MTN contract (where they have stock) - please let me know...my upgrade is due! woop.

Thank you for your e-mail communication to Vodacom.

Please be advised that the HTC Hero has not yet been launched on the Vodacom network. At present there is no estimated time of arrival for the handset. Before the handset is launched it will still need to be tested which can delay the launch.

Should you have any further queries, please contact us via e-mail at [email protected]

Warm Regards

Hero

Autopage assured me that I can get this phone (with my MTN upgrade) the last week of September.

You can contact Leaf directly - you can upgrade directly through them now - via Nashua Mobile. And they do have stock now!

I have contacted LEAF in Vodaworld and LEAF Sales and they say you can not upgrade through them. Nashua Mobile in Vodaworld does not have stock either.

Can you maybe help then.....I so want this phone, but dont want to pay R6 800 @ LEAF.

This is what I got from the guy that replied to the email I sent to [email protected]

Hi,

Not sure when Autopage will have stock, but you can get your upgrade through us, we are now able to do just that , you will have to port to Nashua Mobile but that should not be an issue.

Let me know

I'm starting to wonder if Leaf / HTC wants to sell phones or not - because I'm very close to letting the Hero idea go and settling for another phone!

Autopage in Fearie Glen says not for two more months.....

Autopage head office is getting stock TODAY!!! Heard it straight from the horses mouth! Phone HO directly for your upgrade, don't bother with a franchise! So, hopefully I'll have mine in the next day or two! I'm so excited!!! Hope it was worth the wait!
