HTC One M8 officially revealed

This device actually seems more disappointing than the S5, albeit for the aluminium chassis and the post focus camera.

I guess 2014 isn't the year for phone innovations.
 
have to agree with you genetic .... seems all these new phones are just rehashes of the old ... i really dont give a f!@# about heart rate monitors and finger print scanners ... manufacturers are just throwing features for the hell of it ... they even looking the same ...
 
The Duo camera is a cool idea but I'm not sold on Ultra Pixel yet. Seems like Apple is the only one that really did anything of note with the 64 bit chip and a finger print scanner that actually works really well. For me 5s was the best upgrade over the previous generation with the M8 in second, Z2 third and the S5, well that to me was a massive dissapointment in many aspects.
 
If you're at the end of your 2 year upgrade cycle this would be a great acquisition.Pity the lack of HTC support in SA - will not buy anything HTC for this reason.

According to HTC, the device can last up to 2 weeks on a full charge when in this new power saving mode, 60 hours when on 20% charge, 30 hours on 10%, and 15 hours when 5% of the battery remains.

I'm actually super keen on this phone. Tired of my plasticy S3.

I have had the Galaxy S1 and S3 so far. At first I wanted the S5 mostly for ultra power saving mode but the Z2's specs seems better, the waterproof feature I can use and I would like to try out a different brand phone this round :)

Me too. Had the S3 & S4, keen on trying the HTC One M8 as I had the Sensation prior and loved it, but the Note 4 is also gonna be attractive.

I predict disappointment with the Duo camera - their previous camera was a disappointment, and this Duo camera seems like a gimmick - they're trying to make it sound like Lytro, but it really appears to be a software blurring solution, so the 1st camera takes everything in focus, and the 2nd camera produces a fake Bokeh effect.


I'll give you the fingerprint scanner as something slightly interesting, but the 64-bit CPU was really a non-issue, still don't get the excitement about that, with nothing using it now or in the near future.

This for me too. I think my N5 will serve me very well for the foreseeable future
 
the disappointment will be when htc stop officialling supporting it within 12 - 18 months

I did say a cool idea, not sure how it's going to work in the real world. I think the 64 bit CPU will help keep the phone working slick for longer, also within the next generation or so every iDevices will be 64-bit so most apps will shift to it by then I imagine.
