Vodacom HTC One X

Spoke to HTC South Africa's Vodacom account manager today. After they promised a 07 May 2012 Vodacom launch in mid April (confirmed by phone) now the story has changed "four to six weeks". When asking why, I get a "no comment" answer from HTC South Africa

Really poor service to loyal HTC users, and we do not know who is to blame. Vodacom or HTC...... ?

Any chance he mentioned the One S at all? No real word on when it will be released here for any of the networks...

Anyone have information about the White HTC One X?
MTN only offers the gray colour, and when I asked about the White version the guy said that the white was reserved for the European/US/Asian markets.

The MTN deal is pretty decent, and I reckon Vodacom will only offer it on their Business contract (Which is useless, as it offers nothing) since they do that with all their new phones.

Nope. I only enquired about the One X.... The bloke got pretty irritated when I pushed him for reasons on the delay and why MTN is already launching the One X. Trying to get to the bottom of this, by speaking to somebody higher up the foodchain at HTC South Africa.... Only getting voicemail

He's scared someone will ask him why :)

Spoke to a guy at Vodacom today and he said that usually the manufacturer (like HTC or Samsung) gives one network the deal first. He said in this case it was MTN. They will only get the phone a month later then. So should be avail on Voda next week.

I have to say that a lot of the guys who actually work at Vodacom doesn't even know about the new One series of HTC. Find it kind of disappointing because they get a salary but a big part of a good salary is their commission and they are losing money because they don't care to just do some review on gsm or google. But it is South Africa so who gives a &*@$

Thanks. I suppose it is legit, and that MTN had to pay a "fee" for the exclusive rights, but HTC SA should then refrain from announcing launch dates in the press which will not happen. Porting to MTN....... Nope, rather the devil you know than the devil you don't......

Thanks. Yea I've been trying to find out from all over and either getting no answers or half responses.

I suppose maybe that's why MTN only has the deal from 1st to 17th May. Plus usually MTN's deals come out in the middle of the month instead of the beginning. But do you think it's worth waiting (As their deal seems alot better than what Vodacom would offer)?

You're right about the Vodacom sales people, most of then don't even know what's happening in the market/industry, and I usually find myself knowing alot more about the phones than they do lol.

n'mind...i found it...R349 on MTN Anytime 200 - is that the right one?

So that's 3.5k for the hardware. Why is that such a good deal?

Cos the hardware is about 7.5k cash? It's actually a bit more than that because the anytime 200 contract with "UYO" (use your own device) is cheaper than R200.

Not the best deal, but comparatively speaking for a brand new flag ship phone in SA it's decent. The deal is R200 airtime, 25sms and 75mb data for the full 24months so the total value is roughly R250, so paying an extra R100 for the hardware. Plus compared to Vodacom, vodacom usually offer their new phones on business call which you would pay R299 which only offers 20 off peak minutes (Such as the new Sony Xperia S). But obviously would have to see how they price their other deals.. It's all relative. Or could just buy the phone overseas, if travelling, and get a random SA contract.. just saying.

That MTN deal is outrageously good. Effectively R2400 for the phone.
