Dude, I don't have 5 grand lying around to spend on a phone. It needs to be on VC contract for me to get it. Which is why I was looking at the HTC.

was looking forward to it. :(

Other option is to buy an Eee PC and a cheapy cellphone, but then you get device clutter, which I don't want at all... :(

Yeah, I am thinking the same. :(

Thing is, I don't even need all the PC functionality of a smartphone/PDA. I am just looking for a nice phone with a big screen, nice buttons and a nice camera. Which, apparently, is too much to ask for :(

All I want is a phone with a proper QWERTY keyboard, like the HTC TyTN/S710/iMate K-Jam/Nokia Communicator series.

Phones like the Nokia E61 is not what I want...

A stylus-driven phone is also out - don't want or need a touchscreen.

Well, people are loving the TYTN II. It is sposed to do everything that you could imagine a phone to do. Only thing it doesn't have is a flash for the camera. Also, it costs as much as a decent laptop or PC. :(
 
@ hj2k_x - I think we can pool our resources, each surfing for a good phone and let the other know - so we can narrow things down a lot.

What do you think?

I want :

ability to play the odd Mp3, surf the Internet (either from gprs, 3g or wifi access point), qwerty keyboard, 64k or better color screen, ability to have IMAP4 email (google mail) and the ability to run 3rd party software or add-ons. Also SMS, MMS and the odd call here and there. It also need to have Bluetooth and USB.

Plus the ability to add bigger RAM cards in (to store more data) will also be a definite plus.

I don't need GPS software, 3G is optional (but not a necessity). Touch screen is not needed.

Cool idea :)

I want:(these are all musts)

-speed and responsiveness
-big screen (at least 2.2" but the bigger the better)
-nice buttons which are good for fast smsing
-nice camera with flash
-must not be too big or too heavy. Something the size of my K810 is fine

I would like as well
-the ability to add cheap memory cards, like micro SD
-good battery life
-a slide out qwerty keyboard

I do not want
-touch screen or a stylus
-a phone that slides (like the Samsungs or Nokia N81/82 unless what slides out of it is a qwerty keyboard)


Basically, I want an HTC S730 as far as I can tell...

Also, it needs to be free on contract. Must be VC, preferably TopUp315/Talk130. Certainly no more expensive than that.

There we go. Demanding hey? :)

Sorry man, I almost thought it was a joke.

Have you seen the keypad? It is quite frankly, awful. And it is bulky. The screen is a decent size. If it had decent keys it would be cool.
 
I've seen the keypad, but most people reckon it's not so bad...will pop-in at my local MTN shop tomorrow and 're-examine' it again... ;)

I'm also rereading some reviews now. But I played around with a dummy model in the shop and the buttons are poor to say the least :(
 
I actually don't want a 'candybar' phone again....the newly announced SE W980 clamshell looks exactly what i'm after...

I used to love clamshell phones. Haven't had one for years. Had an awesome Samsung N620, then a SE T610, the nthe SE K750 and now the K810. Problem is, there are a lot of nice phones on gsmarena but when are we going to get them here and how much will they be?! Like the newer SE's look good to me.

Ag, I'm gonna 'soldier' on with my P990i till the W980 becomes available...they say third quarter, so that means July-August. Tired of big & bulky phones, want something small and funky. :)

*Doesn't the W980 looks fantastic?? And the features of the phone are up there with the best. ;)

Yeah, I checked out the P1, but that seems to be too reliant on its stylus for me. There is no joystick just a jog dial on the side :(
