I have an Android Tablet, I seriously it is not as good as people go on about. The interface is boring and you need to root it to do any modifications to its design and interface AND void my warrantee! Seriously? The supposed open world and I void my warrantee when I want to use the open world?
Android is over 3 years old already. MS only started launching WP7 devices a few months ago. To call Android's interface boring, is a sign of its maturity. WRT rooting - the same thing applies to Windows Phone 7.
Lets talk privacy? Do you know how many people you can possible give access to on your Android device when you install apps, which frequently change their permission settings? Is it all worth it? Yes, you can install an app to control what goes in and out, but wait you first need to root it and void your warrantee.
Same applies to WP7.
The reason why Android is flying off the shelve is because the geeky boys working at the cellphone stores are all pushing the Android devices.
So you don't trust the Geeks? Then who do you trust with regards to technology? Also, the reason WP7 phones aren't flying off the shelves, is because there are very few of them available, and WP7 still needs to prove itself. Before the mango update, WP7 sucked badly.
Seriously, you phone's life is 1-2 years, your support for a phone is maximum 6 months, before you manufactures start pushing their new phone. So why buy for potential? Buy for now. Rant over.
Maximum 6 months support? That's a big exageration. My 1 year old HTC Desire running Froyo, patiently waiting for MTN and Leaf to bring Gingerbread to South Africa, highly disagree with you. In any case, support for mobile devices usually doesn't extend for more than 2 years. This applies to all manufacturers. Do you think Nokia is still supporting the N95? Is MS/HTC still supporting the HTC Tytn? Is Apple still supporting the original iPhone?
The industry moves so fast, that trying to support older devices is a big burden. Processor speeds, RAM, screen size, resolution, etc all double everytime you blink. Trying to provide the latest updates on old hardware is not cost effective. Also, due to the 2 year contract life-cycle, it is industry standard to support phones for roughly the same amount of time.
That said, I have nothing against WP7, and in fact, I hope they do really well. Competition is good for us. I wouldn't want to buy a Blackberry phone for myself either, but hope that their new OS7 devices kick ass, and that their QNX devices will be awesome. The more competition the better. iOS vs Android vs WP7 vs QNX will keep the market fresh and innovative. Let's hope we never ever go back to the days of Symbian vs WM6 - two sloths hurling mud at each other.
