HTC Touch Diamond

Does anyone have an idea when the Touch Pro will be released? If its still gonna be a while, im considering the Touch Diamond, but im a bit worried about the touch keyboard. Coming from a P990 with dedicated keyboard, im a bit spoiled....

sorry no idea. but the diamonds touch keyboard is VERY handy. it depends on how much you need to use the keyboard. ie for long emails etc wait for the pro, otherwise the diamond is perfect.

I'm the same. coming from a tytn i just can't imagine NOT having the joys of a dedicated keyboard. onscreen's just not the same. you can't drive and sms with an onscreen....... squeeee....crash....eeeek!!!

wazarmoto and greggpb what was it about the Diamond that you did not like? I'm interested in the touch pro but want to hear as much comments on the diamond before I finally decide. Thx

This phone has a LONG way to go UI wise, before you can even mention it in the same sentence as the Iphone...

Try scrolling through your contacts without selecting and dialing the wrong person first... its like it fundamentally does not understand the difference between a swipe and a tap. If you like a stylus then you are in luck, cause its DEFINITELY not finger friendly

There is about a half a second lag/delay from when you do a gesture (like a swipe) until the phone responds(that's to say if it decides to respond). In the 4 days that I actually had my sim in the phone, the sms app crashed 3 times and the phone completely froze twice. The second time it froze was quite funny to me actually. Phone was next to my bed, no applications running and in standby, when the alarm went off. I picked up the phone and killed the alarm put it down, got out of bed, picked it up again to see what time it was and it was frozen. It froze while doing nothing.. lol. brilliant!

I'm not even mentioning the other known complaints.. missing calls when the phone decides to answer or drop a call while you are taking it out of your pocket.. **** battery life... and something that i thought was my imagination, but after giving the phone to a friend to try, he complained about the same thing.. when answering the phone, there is a pause of up to 2 seconds before you hear the other person and he hears you. It doesn't happen every time, but more often than not.

Just to be clear, The phone came with the latest 1.93 rom. So these issues are not related to the previous apparently much slower version. Heck, if i still find it slow, I don't want to know what it was like before....

In my opinion, people who say they like this phone and TF3D, have never played with the Iphone before. And don't get me wrong, I'm not an Iphone fanboy and will not buy the Iphone either (mymobile sucks, cannot be used as a modem, etc.) but Microsoft/HTC will have to do WAY better if they want to compete in this market. Two thumbs down for this phone.. (if I had a third It would have been pointing downwards as well....

Ye know what? despite all that crap, I'm still getting a diamond pro/touch pro. Why? because i'm on XDA-dev and I know half that stuff has allready been sorted and the rest will be be gone within weeks. Stock ROMs are for noobs.

Are any of you using the Diamond as a modem? What sort of speeds are you getting?

Are you using Internet Sharing or PDANet?

Hi. I'm new to the forum.
I've got the HTC Diamond, and uploaded the latest ROM, but I've encountered 2 problems thusfar.

Firstly, in the phone screen, my "Contacts" menu has changed to "Video Call" (on the left of the screen). How can I change this back to the "Contacts".

Secondly, the font on the Qwerty Keyboard has changed from the default. Only the alphabets have changed, the numerals are still the same. How do I change this back to the default.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Using internet connection sharing

Vodacom speedtest

Download Speed: 1268 kbps (158.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 703 kbps (87.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
I have had Higher speeds but my signal is poor and the tower is congested.

What ROM version did you install and where did you get it from?

Thanks for the reply.

I don't understand why my speed is so slow then! Are you on Vodacom?

Have you tried connecting to a VPN by any chance?

Vodacom yes, With the 3.6 option and I have enabled HSUPA on the cellphone.

I connect successfully to a VPN with the device, no difference to my Datacard (Dell Builtin - 1.8) except faster.

I've got ver 1.93.421.2 WWE - got it from Leaf. I spoke to their technical division and according to them, all of their phones are the same (they apparently checked with one another). They also advised that this is due to the upgrade, and they have no solution for it.

I've logged a call with HTC Support, and am waiting for feedback from them.

Does anyone else have the same problems after the upgrade? :)

Have you tried doing a hard reset on the phone? You can also have a look at www.xda-developers.com and check if anyone there might be having the same issue.

I have the same options enabled on mine. Do you establish the VPN connection on the phone or do you just use the phone to connect to the internet and then connect to the VPN from your PC?

I have no idea how to fix this , but suddenly all my speaker volume outputs have been halved... (cept for listening to voices in calls etc) ringtones alerts etc.

The volumes seem to be full ... (under settings etc).

Anyideas? (running standard rom upgraded with the thingy from leaf.)

EDIT: bloory hell ... seems to be normal after a reboot. stoooopaaaad!!!! hehe

Predictive Text - Afrikaans

Does anyone know if it's possible to use an Afrikaans dictionary for the Predictive Text input? And if so, how do I enable it?

Edit: Sorry I see this is actually enabled by default and most words are already included.

I just use the phone to connect to the internet, then fire up the vpn connection.

One of the problems with Internet Sharing is that it NAT's your address, which for some firewall software causes it to break.

(check the address supplied to you PC)
