HTC Touch HD Contract

Did anybody get this phone yet? Comments?
I'm getting it beginning of next month.

Did you go with Vodacom SP directly? If so, was it through a store, or via vodacomdirect.co.za?

So after e-mailing the vodacom handset division last week i was very shocked to be mailed back the same day telling me that the HD is comming to Vodacom on the 7th......
So today i phoned the vodashop in Polokwane to find out what my pay inn will be as i am upgrading on the 17th of this month...and guess what....They are harboring a bunch of idiots here in my local store!!!!!! i just wasted 17 min of my life and is no closer to the " Windows Almighty Phone"...

My company pays R600 phone allowance. The cheapest is about R608.00 from MTN on MTN 200.
:-(
Sigh, I'll shop around...

Glipsie, Thursday I want a review.

? Fine print?
The advert says "Free phone"

The price advertised there includes a monthly fee for the phone. I chose the pay-in option (it works out +-R1k cheaper)

Getting the run-around from the shop though. I've now been told it will come on Friday :(
Not sure what I'll do if its not here on Friday but I'll definitely have a few choice words for the sales rep ;)

Got mine on 3rd. It is available at Vodaworld Vodashop.

PS, I also chose the pay in option......

Opinion on HD

They sell the HD inports in JHB for R 9200 inc. VC wants R12000 plus for it. Very tempted to buy in JHB. Love the big screen but if it's also as sluggish as the diamond I will stay away. Does anybody have one and is the working of the UI better than the diamond and what's your opinion overall of the phone. Please help

Wohoo my phone has arrived.

First impressions is that this is one amazing device. The screen is just massive! TouchFLO works quite nicely, the touch screen is sensitive, but nowhere near the iPhone. The popup keyboard is fantastic, very usable (the big screen helps it a lot!). The GPS seems quick (with QuickGPS it gets a lock within 30 seconds). What I like best about windows mobile devices is that you plug them in and within seconds all your contacts, tasks and calendar events are on the phone :).

When you plug the device into your pc it asks you what you want the device to act as (activesync device, storage card, or internet sharing) - nice touch.

I'm in the process of testing video playback will post more later

My questions
1. Can you use a LANDSCAPE keyboard in sms mode?
2. When the phone is locked and you get an incoming call, can you answer by using the screen and not the "hardware buttons"?
3. Does it get hot?
4. Battery-life (When just using as normal phone and when using other features such as Wi-Fi, etc.)

List your other Pro's and Con's please. This is basically the only phone I want to settle for...don't wanna go research another one.

They use different tech I think.

picked mine up this afternoon. -okken mooi foon. It's only on the sensitivity issue that the Iphone beats it. My Iphone is in the drawer, cannot even convince my wife to change it for her old nokia

They use different tech I think.

1. You cannot change the orientation on the normal ROM (htc have removed it for some reason).
2. I haven't it as a phone yet. I'm still waiting for my number to be ported. Apparently this will only happen Monday. I haven't seen an HTC that doesn't allow you to press the screen to answer a call (even when locked), so I don't see why this phone would be any different.
3. Not that I've noticed. My guess is that it would get pretty hot during HS*PA activity
4. Going on about 16 hours now with heavy use (wifi, bluetooth, video playback, music playback) and the battery reports about 65% remaining. Obviously I haven't been making calls, but my guess is that the battery should last at least 2 days with normal usage

The video playback is really good. Natively the device doesn't support divx, but the converter at xda-developers does an excellent job.

I'll post more on Monday evening. Hopefully I'd have a days phone usage to report on as well ;)

1. Bummer :-( 3rd apps then
2. I read somewhere someone was having trouble doing it. He most likely had a 3rd paty locking software
4. I'll probably just use the phone itself along with bluetooth and GPS (I'm old-school, like to use a map)

Looking forward to your report. I lost my crappy phone of 5 years (Think Nokia 33xx series) 2 months ago and replaced it with en even crappier Nokia for the time being.
Decided to make a bigl move to the other end of the spectrum.
