HTC Touch HD vs Iphone ?

iPhone = cool for music, video & pics and to make the odd phone call

HTC Touch HD = business powerhouse phone

There is really no comparison, the HTC's specs are way off the chart. It all comes down to what you would like to carry in your pocket & what functionality you want from your phone. :)

Spoke to an HTC PM at a distie. Looks like HTC Touch HD comming end Nov 08. he currently has a demo unit and says prelim testing looks pretty good. Especially impressed with screen size and connectivity speeds !!

Why do you say odd phone call on Iphone ?? Is it not a good phone ? i heard about SMS issues ...people not able to reply to SMS's etc. i hope with the new Iphone those issued are adressed.

thanks for the feedback!

Well, personally I think the iPhone is an iPod Touch with a phone function. :)

It's not gonna stop me from getting one, but I've seen a lot of forums where people say the iPhone dropped calls, etc. Apparently that has been fixed with the 2.X software update.

Not sure if i am completely brainwashed by the Apple company ...but there is just something about the iphone that makes me want it !!!

Lets not forget about the Samsung Omnia...also playing in the iphone space and the recently annouced G-phone with T-Mobile yesterday. HTC local not sure if they will be bringing in this phone , but i am sure if they did , they will FLOOD this market ....if they do proper marketing on the device and open to all operators and not just one like apple did , the G-phone might be an even bigger success than I-phone.

Whats your take on the support on HTC in SA ? Good ? Bad ? vs Apple ? i would hate to spend serious TOM on the I-phone only to find out they have to send it to EMEA for repair and leave me without a device for 6 weeks.....

The old 'specifications' argument...

Learn this now: NO specs are even worth the paper they are written on if the software makes it cumbersome; awkward or in some cases - impossible to use the device.

In my experience with WinMo that is the problem.

The screen on the HTC is enough do convince me. Then there is the fact that it has working bluetooth, mms, video recording, OK camera and it can accept music files and ringtones from anywhere. I am one for choices and openness and that is what the HTC brings to the table.

What about the screen is enough to convince you?

It might be big, but it might be crappy & unusable in direct sunlight.

Have you ever tried to get a faulty iPod repaired in Johannesburg? Nightmare...

I hope they understand that the iphone is a business tool...we are no longer talking about just being without a entertainment device for a while. If you take a person's cell away it's a whole other ball game...they better make sure they ramp up their service model...

Are you in middle-management by any chance?

Apple better be taking lessons - next year ALL the high end phones are gonna be 800*480 resolution, so they better get something along the same lines or even better on the iPhone3... And can we have copy and paste while we're making a wishlist?

LOL this is Apple FFS, everyone's dressing their phones like the iPhone now(which I find rather lame and unoriginal). Remember the PowerBook? this was the first laptop as we know it today and things have not changed much since then all thanks to Apple.

Apple is all about marketing in my eyes!

I am yet to own one of their products but all you hear it people talking about iPods (even though there are better mp3 players out there!), iMacs (give me a PC any day!) and now iPhones although from what I can tell, and have read, it is far from being the best phone on the market!

Touch screen seems to be the only "big new thing" it brought to the market or am I missing something...?

I agree I think the innov8 is a much better(conventional) mobile phone, the iPhone is and always has been an iPod with phone features which is why I like it, I don't like flashy frankenstein phones.

It's a niche market and this is typical of all Apple products.

Hmmm sorry I may be old fashioned but a phone must be exceptional at just that, phoning ie making calls, first and foremost and other means of communicating like sms. Once it can do this brilliantly then add other features. If those features are best on the market too then you have the phone I would choose!

Correct me if I am wrong but I assume music playing is about all the iPhone is great at?

No, It does SMS and Phone perfectly (better with each firmware release)which is why I'm happy with it, Apple stayed true to it's iPod fan base but also created a phone that works well, it's strong point is the music player but it is very simple and easy to use as a phone.

I find it easier is to SMS or make call with compared to the frankenstein Nokias/Samsungs/SonyEricssons I've owned in the past.... seriously.

Not sure about this whole Frankenstein angle of yours. What are you implying by it? Surely taking an iPod and turning it into a cellphone is more Frankenstein than anything the other companies have done?
