HTC TyTN II (Codename: Kaiser)

Awesome! got mine yesterday from vodacom on contract. There was only like 11 units left :P awesome phone. I installed all my apps and everything works fine.

Except I cant seem to get the GPS working. I have tried leaf locate and google maps. But I dont get any gps location. Is there anyone that succeeded in plotting a location on a mapping application? Is it maybe because of the overcast weather lately?

I read a post somewhere a while ago that google maps does not work with the TyTN II unless you ran another GPS application first that enables the GPS. Something about google maps timing out too quickly. Try using GpsViewer from http://www.pocketmap.com.

Leaf Locate does not have GPS connection ability. See here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=1267621&postcount=9

Thats a long story, Leaf wanted me to pay R800 for maps for the Tytn2!!

The thing is it has a GPS unit built in and you can download Leaf Locate maps for free but they dont work together. You need to buy the R800 maps.

I want to try the P3300 maps to see if it will work with the Tytn but im waiting for Supaspud to say it will work.

Thanks for the advice. I tried another program called GPSdash2 and it picked up the gps and location, although it had no maps installed. Then I started google maps and voila! It worked :D Thanks.

It suck though that you pay so much for a device (R3100 pay in on +- R300 contract at Vodacom) and you still have to buy a memory card and software for it. Think I will rather try some pirated software and maps just to get started until I have a Budget again :D

Cool!! I have found software that is free and uses the gps. Maps are pretty good too. Almost like leaf locate but just with GPS :D

Here is the website: www.smart2go.com

Its opened it, cool phone, got it from Voda.

Its a touch with more buttons, and the slide up function is a bit odd, I cant press the 2 select buttons when the phones flipped up......

Design problem.

The 2 buttons you refering to would be the soft keys which are mapped to the the screen so just tap on the screen it is close enuf

Saw it at Cresta.

The deal is on ProCall 120 @ R309/pm with R2,499.00 psy in.

Thank you.

The standard Monthly Subscription Fee for ProCall 120 is R 285 pm. I wonder what the extra R24 pm is for.

as far as i know MTN offers it at +- R420 pm on procall 120 without pay in.

saw the special in store, but they dont have the phone yet and cant tell me when they'll get it :(

They told me the same thing today. Fortunately was able to pick one up from a Voda dealer. Awesome phone - looking forward to using it! :D

what plan did you get it on? i'm with voda atm and dont really want to move to mtn.

was there a pay in?

Comparing this phone and the iMate K-JAM shows that the HTC phone have more in it than the iMate.

Those of you who have purchased this phone, can you please give us a review on this phone?

Also, the contract details and shop(s) where purchased.

And what kind of warranty do you get on it? 2 years?

Will appreciate it very much.

Regards

Libs

Unfortunately my TyTn was stolen last week - Picked up the TyTn II from a Vodashop as an insurance claim - R7600. Still on MTN.

The guarantee is reduced from 2 years to 1 year (1 year provided by manufacturer, 1 year by Vodacom) which doesn't bother me because I will be due for an upgrade before the 1 year expires if the phone gets faulty.

At last got me a Tytn II

Phoned LEAF yesterday, spoke to somebody in sales, ordered Tytn II, paid in R7600.00 electronically, hoping payment clears by today so I can send couriers to pick up.

Man, am I excited!

Excellent! Glad to see what I paid (R7600) is what it would have cost me in any case.

This is a great phone - having used a TyTn for the last year, I have no doubt that the original TyTn was rushed out to market a little, and everything else that you now find on the TyTn II is what should have been there from the start. Enjoy it when you get it!

Anybody with any thoughts on what GPS software to use?

Tried smart2go - not bad.
Google maps doesn't utilise the GPS.
Haven't tried GPSviewer

Anyone tried TomTom or HandyMAP?

Have you guys seen the new I-mate 9502? Exactly the same specs as the TyTn II (Kaiser). Same RAM, same Camera, same memory. Even uses the same CPU. except it has a VGA screen and 256k colors, and a LED light for the camera (kaiser has no extra lighting). The only drawback is the battery life, half of that of the kaiser.

But it has just been released. So it will only hit the stores here in SA at about March next year. So if you have time to wait till then, it is definitely a better choice.

But I will still buy the TyTn 2 as soon as it is available on contract here in SA, the itch is just to big to wait :D

I'll go for the extra battery life rather.

TomTom Navigator 6

In the US you get tomtom installer on your cd that is in the box. I have installed it and it runs without serial keys or licensing. But you just have to get maps for it. I have tried cracked maps and I can't get them to work, event with a code generator it still doesn't  So guess I have to take out another R500 - R900 and go and buy maps. But budget is really looking very tight this month :o

TyTN II resolution

Hi Peeps

I am a real newbie when it comes to WM devices HTC etc.

Just a quick question on the display of the device. I have at the moment a SE W900 but I am gonna get myself the new TyTN II when they come available on MTN :-(. Just one question which phone has the better screen resolution as i like a phone that also has a good screen resolution.

And if the W900 has a better resolution what does the HTC compare too??
