HTC TyTN II (Codename: Kaiser)

And ???? did you manage to change the settings?

Yep - made absolutely no difference. Still updating roughly every 8 or 9 seconds. Travelling at about 60 km/h that equates to about a 150-200m lag of where it should be.

Any other ideas?

Strange reports about the GPS lag.
Using TomTom, and having absolutely no problems. TomTom is fast and responsive.
Maybe the difference is that I used GPS Viewer the very fist time I used the GPS, and since then no problems.

I also used GPS Viewer - made no difference. Still experience the lag regardless of baud rate.

Have orderd my Tytn II from Vodacom. I am waiting for stock to clear customs in JHB. Hopefully I will have it this time next week :)

I tried the different BAUD rates in Handymap and it also made no difference. I'm afraid I'm sticking to TomTom.
Have a look at TomTom7. It has a lot of updates and functionality. Just no word on when it will be released as software only.
For those using TomTom, can you get the traffic cameras section working? Mine doesn't.

where can one buy tomtom with sa maps ? link anyone?

and also, when you purchase a map do you get something like update protection or do you need to purchase time a new version is released?

tomtom.co.za has a link to where you can download the program with SA maps. Don't just search tomtom.com as there is no link to SA maps.

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this but the pictures taken with the TyTn II has very bad lighting. So I have played around with the settings and these are the best ones I came up with:

Contrast: 1 for indoors and 2 for outdoors.
Saturation: 3
Hue: 3
Sharpness: 1 (the sharpness technique used by the software of the TyTn is kinda Messy)
EV: -2.0

mmmmm ... i wonder what these dudez have done on the software side. it seems as if there is a lag on every other GPS software ( guyz all over the world seem to have the same problem ).. but TomTom seems to be perfectly fine ... the only thing i can think of right now is it has to have been a sweet deal ...

Maybe thay take your average speed for the last km+- and predict where you are based on that.

Well, mine updates direction too which they wouldn't be able to predict. Also, when going off course, it knows and remaps within a couple of seconds.
I think it's just that it's not using the SirfStarIII chipset which most others use so they haven't got the programming done to suit the one in the Tytn2

I just took a short drive with google maps mobile open and tracking enabled. My position was updated once every second and very accurate.

Has anyone been able to stream YouTube videos from http://m.youtube.com to their phone using the HTC Streaming Media app. I just get "Failed to find network" on any connection I tried. I even created my own plain GPRS connection on the internet APN without the MTN proxy settings, no go.

Maybe the VPN APN will work.
