HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

I thought I'd go the HTC way and got myself a HTC s710. I thought the keypad, as well as the functionality of the keyboard would be awesome. I was wrong.

This is the worst phone I have ever used. It's incredibly slow. Even shifting the keyboard out takes the screen about 5-10 seconds to change it's view. The phone gets so insanely slow that I have to reboot it sometimes...which takes almost an entire MINUTE to do. The applications bomb out. The sounds turn off or don't work at random, which means in the mornings I am late for work because the alarm doesn't go off...other than the fact that I can never hear my phone when someone is calling me so I have permanently got it on vribrate. The phone lasts less than a day. I hate this ****ing phone. I'm taking it in to Cash Crusaders today and getting myself a cheap nokia which I know works a ****load better than this piece of crap...and to think I wanted to go and get myself an HTC Touch. Hell no.

Does anyone have Schaps v4.00 Beta 2 uploaded somewhere other than Rapidshare? Having crap with them this morning on all my connections

Leaf sucky after sales support.

All I can say to all of you who are aiming at getting an HTC from Leaf.co.za is that think twice, and make sure it's what you want... I got my HTC TyTN at the begining of the year... Not even 7 months down the line and I started picking up problems, so I started reflashing the device and trying different roms. Eventually it was droppin' calls and generally acting up. I sent it in for a warranty claim... No contact from leaf other than an SMS saying they're quoting me for R2100 for repairs. Another sms later saying it was being dispatched to the "advanced" repair center. A month or so later I get an SMS to say my phone is ready for collection. I went into the Vodacare Center to fetch my phone, only to be told that it's not fixed and that I must pay over R2k for it to be fixed as the parts that were "broken" were not under warranty. There was also a small area on the quote that had a comment about illegal software. I was naturally furious... After waiting more than a month for this device to be returned to me! I get it back, even more broken than before... LEAF.co.za had formatted/'deleted the entire device. There was NO SOFTWARE on it at all let alone illegal software... I've emailed them and tried calling several times but nobody there cares... I've asked them for an explination and nobody has come back to me... I orginally sent me phone in for a warranty claim in July... it's now almost November... they still can't tell me exactly what happend, what software I had on or anything... they are useless!!!! Leaf doesn't seem to give a rats ass about their customers... other than the customers wanting the "NEW" stuff... which is great and cool... but if there is no after sales service with a device that costs a fair penny... is it actually worth it!??!?! I say to hell with LEAF!!!!!

If this happend to you? What would you do? Maybe I'm not aggressive enough?!

Don't say stuff like that.

I also got my TYTN in Feb '07 and had to take it in on 2007-10-08 for the speaker to be replaced.

Took me two days and a crap load of calls to figure out where my phone is and what is happening to it.

Cool phone crap support!!!

Radio 1.54.00.10 worked very well for me, just stay away from 1.54.07.00

Im very happy aswell with 1.54.07.00

I just need a decent OS for my phone, running Shaps 3.60a and its become so SLOW!

Am I the only one getting problems with 1.54.00.10!?!?!!?

I wish HTC could develop a RADIO that works just as well as a Nokia radio...

Through 100's of flashes, i have managed to come right with sotware.

But from RADIO... I feel like throwing the phone against the wall!!!!!!

Go to the Bruma fleamarket - you'll sort yourself out with better deal there! Cash Crusaders and those companies will steal your money and leave you with crap Nokia.

I must agree with everything you have said. If you are in a hurry to do something on the phone - forget it.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience because mine was totally the opposite. I think the difference is that I have never dealt with a Vodacare or other intermediary. I would go to Leaf, ask to see the product manager (David) and take your issue up with him.
My Tytn bombed-out a few months ago due to a digitizer problem on the screen and they would not look at at due to WM6 being loaded on it. I explained the WM6 on it, because we actually do test it with Exchange deployments for our clients, and everything was sorted.

If the proper procedure had been followed with your device you would have received a fault report from Leaf stating what components needed repair. I smell a rat somewhere so rather go to Leaf directly.

My wife's S710 has some of the same issues, including:
  • Complete Hanging. You need to remove the battery to reset
  • Screen goes black but keyboard looks like it is still functioning (Keyboard lights up when a key is pressed). Phone not working, though.
  • Sometimes connecting the charger starts the vibrator and requires battery removal to reset.
  • Invalid SIM card message

The phone has been in to Vadacare 3 times and everytime it comes back saying that nothing is wrong and that it may be her SIM card that is the issue. The SIM works fine on other phones and the phone does the same with two other SIM cards.

Sorry for this COMPLETE OT (the phone is not a TyTN and she is with VC)

Just to shed some light ... different phones use different contact points on a SIM card. i can tell you from first hand experience that a SIM could work perfectly in one device and it can cause another device to do weird things. if you do have an old SIM, it would bve in your best interest to do a SIM swap ....

sheeesh, Im now trying Black Satin Light... over all this K@K... I just want a decent fast OS on my phone!

That was my initial thought as well so I tested the phone with 4 SIM cards (2 Vodacom and 2 MTN). Three of these SIM cards are used on a daily basis in other phones and the one VC card is a brand new PAYG card I purchased from VC just yesterday when I went to collect the phone for the 3rd time. The phone started giving the same issues within 30 minutes of it being recharged and the new SIM inserted.

Well, my TyTn and I parted ways last night. TyTn + WM6 will mean that whoever it was that took it, now has a paperweight! :D

What to get next... Really liked my TyTn. Think I will get another.
