HTC TyTN / Imate JasJam

My HSDPA worked right away with my current 32K VodaCom card. I thought I may need the 64K but VodaCom said the speed depends on the device and not sim. When using the phone during everyday use I force it to select only GSM and not UMTS cos my battery drains. Otherwise total cost was round R6800. I'm loving this phone compared to my Nokia 9500. The size is great and the software available for Windows Mobile 5 is terrific. The Rom is a bit buggy so i'll just have to wait for an update, otherwise some users overseas have loaded the Imate JasJam Rom which solves some issues with a bluetooth carkit and other smaller bugs. If anyone uses the ir phone for business i'd without a second thought recommend the HTC TyTn or the Imate version being the JasJam

I do the same thing, Switch to GSM to have the best battery through put

Just completed my purchase of the phone at smartdevicesdirect and am now excited, i took a bit of a pounding (excuse the pun) with the exchange rate but you live once and sometimes you have to say wtf:D

You'll love the phone. I was having some problems with the HTC Rom with the phone freezing and one time had to hard reset it (format it) cos it froze and wouldn't restart so i'm now trying the Imate JasJam Rom which is pretty good. I'd recommend viewing the following site for advice and tips, they are moving servers so I know they down till tomorrow.

I just spoke to leaf and they say the htc tytn is currently being tested by mtn - should be available in a few weeks & pricing @ approx R1k more than the k-jam - can you provide any other info / confirm?

as i said i look forward to it - just one question I see the phone is HSPDA ready, are you able to browse at HSDPA speeds on it?

Sorry the link is

Yip HSDPA works perfectly on the phone. I called HTC in the UK and they couldn't give me the local agent for South Africa so I think maybe just the Imate version of the HTC TyTn being the JasJam will be available.

The factory Rom has a few bugs, both the HTC and Imate but I guess all new phones are buggy so everyone is waiting for a new version which according to some sites should be within a few weeks.

Interesting to see that Leaf has had a total redesign of their website... http://www.leaf.co.za

The other VERY interesting thing to note is that all i-mate products have been removed from the website! They emphasize the strong ties they have with Microsoft and HTC. No more i-mate though.

It looks like I am now waiting for the HTC TyTN and not the i-mate Jasjam! :D

Leaf are now advertising the HTC TyTn on TV, pity the add has chinese sub titles :) I'm keen to find out what the cost will be without a contract since I imported mine from America. Atleast if anything goes wrong with mine there is a repair centre and it's insured.

Im really want to get this phone.. cant wait! 8) but just waiting for a provider to get it on the air, i might even change contracts if that is the only way i can get it.. 8)

Our testing process is all to ensure the handset is working correctly before it get's released into the market, but I can assure you we don't try and delay the process any further than we have to
