Toubleshooting lockups / freezes

Anyone out there who can help with this one?

Bought a Jasjam 14 days ago (MTN). Generally happy with it, EXCEPT that it seems to develop random features unless I restart it on a daily basis: Anything from freezing to being unable to answer a call. I noticed that it does not clear running programs from memory when the 'x' button is clicked, so I installed VBar (free utility that causes the button to actually terminate programs). Certainly better since then, but still far from perfect. I certainly never had similar problems with a symbian phone. Problem seems to be worse when I use the phone a lot.

The final straw came this morning when it refused to come out of sleep mode, and did not ring with incoming calls.

To be fair, I had been installing quite a few programs (onto the MicroSD card), but that is after all why I got the thing.

I have now uninstalled most of the extra stuff (including the bundled antivirus), but would like to hear if anyone has ideas on what else I could / should do, or where I can get some guidance on troubleshooting this.

You need to clear runnings apps manually yes ... What apps do you have installed on your device and how much free storage space do you have on the device and how much program memory is available?
remember that even tough your apps are installed to the card ( always a good idea) these apps write changes to your registry. it could be one of the added apps you installed causing your issues ... Or it is just a bad apple ... difficult to tell ... give some more info ..

Program memory free: 25.25 MB
Storage memory free: 34.08 MB
Memory card: 512 MB, 380MB free.

Stuff I had installed, removed now: Skype, .Net framework V2 (for a code browser that needed it), the bundled CA Antivirus (Usually the first thing I disable when things go pear-shaped, and the only one of all this stuff that was installed at the time of the first crash), PocketFMS (GPS software).

Stuff I installed myself, still on: vBar, OpenVPN

Pre-installed, still on: Pool, Blackjack, Suite, WMP Today, Clearvue PDF, Imaginet XMS

ROM version 1.31.305.2

Thanks

if you have installed vbar and its still doing weird stuff, i suggest a hard reset - then reinstall vbar - thereafter all ur other goodies...and if it still does the same thing take it back to MTN -could be a rotten apple...
it should be able to handle the stuff u mentioned except that when skype is running try not to have other stuff running in the background..
also note that the not recovering from sleep mode could be because of the keylock.try leaving it on standby at night without keylock on ( if it was on in the 1st place! ) this may help...

Thanks

resources look fine for daily operation ...
what i would suggest is hard resetting the device if the problem continues.
use it for a while without installing any additional and see how it goes .. then slowly start installing the additional apps ...
if your problem is resolved have your SP check out the device.

Yup. Hard resetting sorted me out when pocketbreeze or wizbar stuffed my device. remember, you lose all your settings & all programs have to be reinstalled, so backup first.

Thanks for the help. Will go with the hard reset.

While I'm going to do that: Does anyone know how to reliably move 'My Documents' to the SD card (and keep it synch'ed there)? Stuff I could find on the net was contradictory. Would be nice if I could move the biggest resource hog out of ram.

instead of Sync'ing the docs ... copy them to the card manually ..

For the radio stack changes to stick, will the screen on the unit change from displaying:

Upgrade

Radio Stack

Please wait..

Cause I ran the program. Got an Error 120 : Country..., ran it again then the above appeared. After what could have been close to 10 minutes, the program came up with Error 114. I closed the program, waited about 30sec and then did a soft reset.

When I check the Device Information, it still has the radio as 1.18.

Which ROM are you trying to use ??? what ROM version do you currently have?? give some more info ...

ROM Version - 1.35.255.2
ROM Date - 14 Nov 06
Radio Version - 1.18.00.10
Protocol version - 32.55.7018.01H
ExtROM version - 1.35.255.102

mmm ... so are you trying to upgrade your ROM or just the radio stack ???
dont be shy on the info ... details please

i dont have enuf info so i will shoot from the Hip here ... from my experience the TyTN is a tricky bugger ... to ensure a smooth running process you would most likely have to down grade your ROM to the original 1.18 ROM and then run the new ROM ...

Just the radio ROM

Tell me, which bootloader are you using? put into bootloader moder, the bootloader is SPL 1.0x.

Must be 1.04 for this to work.

If you get a country ID error, just run the program again immediately. Remember to superCID before you do any of this!
