Hi,

After seeing Keeper's http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-Guide-to-creating-the-Ultimate-TV-Experience, I am now looking into building an HTPC (will use an old machine for now) and upgrade my chassis, graphics, capture card later. I would just like to know, do any of you own any of the logitech Harmony remotes

I have been looking at the
Harmony 650
Harmony 600
Harmony 300i

I would like to know how versatile these are, for example, can I use these with almost all HTPC software?
Also, I see no major difference between these apart from the screen, and according to PriceCheck.co.za,the prices vary by huge amounts between stores. I would like to get an opinion, but only if you own or know someone who owns one of these remotes.

Regards

I have the 700, works flawlessly with XBMC. Takes some time to set up the first time, but after that you are golden. Dont ask me what reciever I'm using though, cause I have no clue!

I think I had one of those, and it didnt work. Though some people have gotten it right with eventghost (major mission imo). I'll try look tonight, but iirc it has to be MCE complaint or some such thing and it will be fine

gents, Ive been reading up on this for like the last week...

link and link

This article applies to remote controls that use the Microsoft eHome device driver

note that "eHome device" equates to the RC6 IR receiver. Fontosa sell the Compro K300 remote which is bundled with this type of IR receiver.

I have the Harmony 300 and the IR sitting at home on my desk, got it all last night. I will be setting up this evening and will post feedback here.

Not really phased it it will work or not, the harmony lag is more my concern...

will post later tonight

If we can just get an actual link to a product that can be bought that works, that would be awesome :)

techead, if you have the time, please test both Windows 7 and OpenELEC (the OS used by Keeper).

I'm not 100% on which I'll use but if OpenELEC works that means the receiver is at least Linux compatible which is good news...

If the cheapo receiver works, im betting the more expensive one will.

I personally dont think a receiver looking like a thumbstick is gonna look nice at the front, and it wont work if its on the back as its IR

Im gonna look around some more...

not necessarily. some of the cheaps ones reported working, and some not... bit of a gamble if you dont know if its RC6. If its got aMCE sticker then at least you know its RC6.

its quite small hey, like half the size of a thumb and its dark in colour so you will really have to look to see it. also, I've read multiple reports of signal bounce from anywhere in the room with the harmony remotes.

will test tonight and report on everything I can :)

I have no problem with a cheapo, but I need a link to one that definitely works. Buying a bunch to experiment isn't really in budget at this point....

Any links appreciated that definitely work with the Harmony remotes and also works with Windows 7 and OpenELEC (optional but would be very good).

I didnt say im betting the ir receiver will work with the harmony - im betting it will work in openElec.

If openelec supports some unknown china brand cheapo receiver, the brand name one should work as well.

It would be nice to get confirmation though, but for so long i will use my cheap one....it was only 65 bucks anyway heh

(sorry typing on an ipad)

Which one tho!!??

:p You see my dilemma, we need LINKS, so we can actually buy confirmed working products :)

Even if it is just for OS x or OS y. Somewhere somehow we need to start a list of receivers that work and can be had locally for an acceptable price.

That is my thought anyhow.
