Good day,

I just wanted you guys to know that the antennas have been distributed to dealers, service centre’s extra.

The cost after vat I believe is R137

Thanks MTNDD

Vodacom included antennas in the boxes when their cards were issued. MTN subscribers who got their cards earlier have to buy the antennas seperately now. Clever - but not fair. It will make me think twice before I consider going for MTN again.

It's not MTN. I just spoke to someone at Huawei Technologies.

South Africa,Johannesburg
Address:First Floor, Building 28, The Woodlands, Woodmead, Johannesburg, South Africa
Phone:0027-11-5179800
Fax:0027-11-5179801

The Antenna is sold seperately.

Cool, I think that will come in handy. Does it make a big difference in the reception?

Nope

That's not the case MTN opted to go with the earpiece instead of the antenna, Vodacom don't offer the earpiece........

Earpiece vs Antenna

At least via the MTN route you can make call using the earpiece and the software. As far as i know the Vodacom software does not allow that functionality. it a good backup and means that you basically have a spare phone on your travels should something like water damage occur.

MTN should offer free antennae to current users of the data card , to at least make up for Vodacoms free upgrade to HSDPA cards

I must be honest the MTN F@stlink E620 software is great it's the best interface I've seen yet........

I didn't get an earpiece either.

where do i find it in cape town? spent an hour or two on the phone trying to get it here. eventually spoke to someone in durbs who told me to wait a week or two.

That's a good question. I thought it was available already. The nearest service centre is MTNSP at Century City. Could MTNDD find out for us if they have stock. It's a walk-in service centre so we can't phone them to find out.

Thanks m8

That would be good to know whether MTN canal walk has any. I don't feel like calling shops then they ask me "what is a antenna????"

believe me, i phoned the whole lot incl canal walk.
ps. just about no one knew what i was talking about till i spoke to the lady in durban. she says they have the aerial but are trying to source the pigtail from the suppliers. she claims they are having problems in their negotiations with the supplier of the pigtails. +/- eight weeks delay.

I've emailed the Channel Manager of Indirect Sales as well as the Product Manager and the Operations Administrator at Midrand asking to please communicate to the channel.

I do apologize.

Here are the com's that were sent out

DEAR VALUED CUSTOMER

Please be informed that an external accessory antenna is now available for MTN’s HSDPA data card; the F@stLink E620. The antenna comes with a 400mm cable that can be plugged into the data card to improve signal strength when required.

These 3G External antennas will be available at a recommended selling price of R137.80, vat inclusive.

So there was comunication sent out from Midrand - I'll just have the Channel Manager check into this further.

Thanks MTNDD
