I got a Huawei WS7100 AX3 with my Afrihost order with the intention of setting it up as a downstairs WiFi repeater. I have a MikroTik HAP ac2 as my main router.

I factory reset the AX3, logged in via WiFi, set it up in repeater mode. It listed the MikroTik's 5GHz network, so I selected it and entered the credentials. It connects fine.

The problem is when I connect to the WiFi (now repeated), my laptop doesn't get assigned an IP address. It's like the DHCP function on the repeater just vanished, and it's not using the DHCP server of the main router.

I can manually assign an IP address and DNS server on my laptop and connect to the Internet, but I don't want to do this for every device in my house. Plus I then need to change it any time I switch networks.

It might have something to do with the repeater not being on the same subnet (its default IP is 192.168.3.1, MikroTik router is on 192.168.88.1) but one would think it would figure that out automatically. There's also no way to change the IP address, LAN or DHCP settings while the AX3 is in repeater mode - those options all go away.

Has anyone had success setting up a Huawei AX3 in repeater mode?

Thanks

Wouldn't it be better to set it up as an access point

I'm not able to run an ethernet cable, unfortunately. It would definitely be better.

The Huawei AX3 simply relays dhcp from the main router. If you aren't getting an IP it might be that the lease requests are getting block somewhere. I would start looking at the Mikrotik settings.
