Hi all, I have read the threads in regards to the b315 router and to force it to use the 2300 /B40 on Telkom.

I am looking at the B525 router from Telkom on the Feb deal and was wondering if the band optimization would be needed as this router should aggregate more than 2 frequency bands automatically.
So is their a tool box to access the B525 and is it all needed?
Would the router not connect to the 1800 and 2300 by default?
I assume the B525 would be locked to telkom because it will be on contract and would this prevent access with any 3rd party software like the band selection tool etc?

Thanks again.

The router won't be locked to Telkom network only.

The B525 is a LTE-A router that would support both B40+B40 aggregation and B1+B3 aggregation. It only has 2x2 mimo compared to 4x4 mimo of the B618.

You can use the huawei band tool to force bands if you want.

The standard firmware allows 1800mhz or 2300mhz selection.

Yes it does. if you want to force Band 1 or B1+B3 aggregation you would need the tool though but B3 and B40 can be forced in the settings :)

I am currently helping a friend setup his B525 router via TeamViewer.
It would seem that it is set to 1800 Mhz as his speeds are not too good, less than 20 Mbps.
Can someone take a screenshot of the list of options available so I can guide him what to do as the modem tells me it will dissconnect if I select the only Manual option, and of course that will knock me off.

There will probably only be 4G Only, 1800MHz 4G only and 2300MHz 4G only.

So once you set 2300MHz 4G Only you will have band 40 and if there is LTE-A it will connect to 4G+ on that band. I would recommend that setup if it's slow you are going to need to use the huawei band tool to force B1+B3 LTE-A if there is coverage of that.

Thanks for the info.
I see the Toolbox does not work on the B525, nor does my Ltemon for that matter, yet LteWatch works fine.
I must say I did not try the band tool, will do that next time.
The more I setup other routers, the more I like my B315 :)

I have attached it. Just edit the config file with the correct router ip, username and password and you should be set to go. Very easy one click band force.

Looks like cities where my friend stay, speeds do not much exceed 25 Mbps.
When I ran a Show Band I got the first pic so I switched to 2300 and made it worse, speeds dropped to 15 Mbps.
I then switched back and the speeds were back to 25.
Only now do I appreciate where I stay with my 80+ Mbps :)

Well try running this one for him. It will still be 1800MHz but if the tower is also broadcasting B1 (2100MHz) he will get LTE-A on that too. LTE_1800+2100_UPLOAD_1800.bat

Won't see him for a while but when I do, I will try that.
My son gets his WebAfrica package this week with a B525 so I can can try there also.
He also currently has a B315 with 25 Mbps with Telkom so I cannot wait to see the diffs.

Thanks. The rain mobile SIM does not give the option to select between 1800 and 2600mhz like with fixed wireless. Ran the script to force 1800 on the rain mobile B618 and now it stays connected.

Probably a noob ass question but, Do i need a PC to run this tool guys?
or can i install on my phone ..?

Sorry no clue on how this works.. just want to try learn you know lol

I am awaiting the delivery of a B618 next week for my Mom to use Fixed LTE from Afrihost. using MTN to keep in contact video call wise with my brothers in Australia. I have no experience with LTE and the setup of that on routers to get better speed. I did a Speedtest with my cellphone on the MTN network at her place and I got 20 odd mbps download and about 9mbps upload. I'm assuming I should get at least that with the B618.

However, if I need to tweak and try get things going better, would I be able to do that using this tool you posted here or was that only for the B525? Oh and is there a version for Mac (sorry) :)
