Huawei E1820 with Cell C and 8ta networks, help

I have the E1280 that i got with my CellC contract and I went out to get a 8ta contract (cheaper and more gigs)

problem is with the CellC sim I have a RSSi of -71dbm but with the 8ta I have a RSSi of around -95dbm

I stay in the Kenridge area (next to Tyger Valley center in Cape Town) and want to know if there is anyone that has a antenna that I could borrow to test if it will improve my signal before I go out and buy one.

Point i I need to know if buying a antenna WILL work or if i should just cancel the subscription to 8ta.

For testing I suggest to use a modem with properly implemented external antenna. Current models are E367 or E352 (R350 @MTN stores).

thanks for the reply, but I think you misread the post sajunky.
that RSSI is standard, i.e. I dont have a antenna.

the speed of the stick is slower on 8ta for me, so want to test IF buying a antenna would be the option to speed it up
 
Point is if you want to test with antenna, you must test it with modem which implements external antenna connector properly. You didn't read above thread, did you?

no, i did... but in any case, I see where you are going. At the end of the day to me its not the RSSi thats important, its the speeds that im getting and at the moment the cellC on the same modem is faster than the 8ta, so i need to see if i can get the 8ta to be as fast as the cellC and want to test if a Antenna will accomplish this. otherwise i will just haveto cancel the 8ta

the RSSi value is the only thing that i can remember off hand
 
I get it. I am saying:
- you won't be able to position antenna correctly with your modem, unless you do hell a lot blind testing or use inductive coupler and you lose 6dBi on it.
- assuming you position antenna properly and receive good signal, but tower will not hear you, as external antenna in your modem is used for receiving only.

So in other words (as you seem do not understand) stay with Cell C or get another modem.
 
would there be any difference in speed if i use the cellC dash or the 8ta dash?
 
I'm using the 1820 with inductive coupler, TP-Link router and an external antenna on 8ta and it increased my RSSi from -95 to -69 - now using CellC and 8ta and all working well
 
i just tried a inductive coupler with a antenna last night and my rssi seems to go down... :(
 
yes i know negative is better... i meant my connection got worse. I.E. the rssi went up. was at around -95 without the inducter on 8ta, goes to around -107 with the inducter
 
what type of antenna were you using? do you know where the tower in your area is?

Which just means its not pointed to the right place,with Poynting antenna i got 20dbm improvement from it using a 1820
MDMA/Laptop /Roof is the easiest way i found....Lock the modem to "3G only" or you might start looking at 2G signal strength

I have no idea where the tower is.

snake eyes that antenna you have is for 2G only

look here:

You will need 3G-MOD and one of the ANT-3G depending on the length of cable you need.
