Huawei E220 NEW Firmware 7.2Mbps released

The main point of the advanced bundle is that you get better OOB rates. 7.2 is an added extra so if all you care about is speed then yes, I would also say it's not worth it.
 
Thanks guys got the prepaid option for R189 which does not seem all that bad, easy to use and easy to add on data, pitty about the 7.2 though but its not a train smash thanks for all your help - I downloaded Vodacom version 9.4.3 mobile connect software but which version should I flash the unit with or is that the right one?
I am assuming that the software I downloaded (70 megs) is not to flash the unit but rather dashboard software?

VMC 9.4.3 is the stand alone app. i.e. you load it on your PC and it will drive the modem. The dash you are looking for is VMCLite_E220_3_2_1. That will update the dash on the E220 which will prompt to install / launch when attached to your machine. You can use either.

As an alternative to VMC you can look at either the generic Huawei dash or MDMA, which is much less bloat than VMC.

Host is the firmware, VMC is the dash. Get 11.117.09.04.00 from the Vodacom downloads page.
 
Sorry to dig up old cows, but has there been a new firmware release since unlocking more some potential on the E220?

As posted in your other thread. The modem isn't your problem; your signal/tower/backhaul is.
 


Dang... New firware and it still crawls... (I know, I know, I'm just saying...)
 
Actually managed to squeeze out 1.98mb/s UP the other night on my notebook, which is not that bad. That's twice what I'm getting on the desktop, but I think my network adaptor might bt an issue. It's a USB Netgear 802.11bg running from a USB hub... If I get the PCI version it should be more stable
