The new firmware has been released by Huawei.

I have installed it, confirming 7.2Mbps potential.

It seems faster but how do we really know. Can I ask however, does this enable me to add the HSUPA service for R49 per month now, and would my E220 be able to connect with HSUPA?

E220 does not support UPA, so you'll only see 3.6 downlink if you have it enabled on your account or 7.2 when it's launched.

Hopefully the new firmware (which is probably not yet tested by Vodacom, so you're being very adventurous!) does tweak it a bit.

No I mean you don't pay for the firmware download on Vodacom from vodacoms site.
If you want to use 7.2 on vodacom you need to buy "advanced" bundles (more expensive) afaik.

Oh I see, so on MTN you would pay to use 7.2? Thats madness.
Maybe I must just get a prepaid sim on Vodacom.
Any idea how much that would cost?

Thanks for your help.

For someone so critical of both cellphone providers you show an alarming ignorance when it comes to the pricing of their products

wow what a useless post. so because I have never used a e220 moddem and never used the software or firmware as I have always used my phone I am not allowed to be critical of companies ripping me off. I have never used prepaid sims by the way

I am saying that if you want to be critical of something then you should know what it's about. If you feel so "ripped off" why are you blindly wanting to commit yourself to another one of their products.

All the pricing is clearly published online. Go read up

so tell me then being all knowing, how will I get acceess on my laptop without using one of them, not like I have a choice

You have a choice:
1) Pay up
2) Do without mobile internet

Just like I choose not to have ADSL because I refuse to hand any money over Telkom (directly).

By not using prepaid sims you are increasing the possibility of being ripped of...
