Huawei E220 on Windows Vista

got trouble here

Hi there.
Im using huawei e220 on Vista home premium, and im using it for "indosat 3g" at indonesia. the problem is i had the problem with vista (modem couldnt be detected), so i tried the 'workaround' method i found at this site, had success with it, mobile connect software detected my modem, but i still couldnt connect and it says something like "failed to connect. please check your wireless service or network connection settings".
The next thing i tried is i downloaded vista drivers, firmware upgrade, and the mtn dashboard upgrade i found at this site, do the firmware upgrade and the mtn dashboard upgrade as like in the instructions. I installed everything perfectly, my vista could read files inside the modem, and i installed the mtn software too. Problem is, this mtn software wont let me to press 'connect' button,i think it was mainly due to 'card is invalid'.
Question is, is it true that i couldnt use 'other than MTN' 3g service with the software because it is being prevented??
Then I tried to use my 'mobile connect' software to connect to my 3g service but it returns me the exact same message as before i installed the firmware upgrade. So currently I still couldnt connect.
And, I have a BIG problem here... the 'setup' files inside my modem now has been converted to MTN dashboard, and it seems that I am not able to access and change it like before. I am deadly clueless here. What should i do? I wonder why i still couldnt connect to 3g service eventhough i upgraded my firmware? what has gone wrong? and how to revert back my huawei modem to the original files? my modem is on lease here and i must return it to the provider upon disconnection of service. somebody out there please help me...

That sounds like your E220 is network locked and you have the incorrect SIM card inserted.

No, the MTN software doesn't prevent you from using other networks, as long as you have the correct APN it should work.

Normally you can download the E220 files directly from Huawei here. Unfortunately they are currently unavailable, not sure if this because of Vista upgrades, but hopefully they'll be back soon.

I have the exact same problem. Maybe its a Vista Home Premium issue?

Anyone that got it working, can you confirm you using Home Premium?

Huawei software downloads are now available on their site.

The Vista E220 firmware update and dashboard software is busy being tested as we speak, I've got some test drivers which is around 6 megs if want to try it and your own risk I can send it to you but I'm prefer you wait for the final released version

I've done my own E220 with the Firmware update and Dashboard update and it's working hundreds on my PC running Windows Vista

Hi,
I need some help on installing the firmware update.

When installing, I am able to see the screen on communication port, current and target version. At the warning page when I click "Next" it prompt that cannot locate modem. Cant continute the update.

Checking my device manager I got all the device installed..3G modem, 3G PC interface, USB Mass storage and Huawei Mass storage USB.

I realise that whenever I want to install the firmware, the composite device will give a error and device cant work.

Did I install the driver incorrectly? Anyone can help?

Thanks.
