Hi,

I'm using a Huawei E220 modem to connect to the Internet (Vodacom) on my Laptop (Windows Vista) - the Internet works well but at times it would disconnect and the Vodafone Mobile Connect software would close by itself. If I want to reconnect I get the following error:

Run-time error '10013'
The requested address is a broadcast address, but flag is not set

Any ideas, can anyone help?

Kind regards
JAK

Its a Visual Basic Runtime error. You probably have some missing or corrupt files that VMCLite needs.

Best follow morkhans's advice and get the latest version of VMC, version 9.3. The installation may replace the missing or corrupt files.

Are you getting that error message with VMC Lite 2.2.1 or VMC Lite 3.2.1 or VMC 9.3?

As suggested previously....either update your modem to VMC Lite 3.2.1 or just use the full VMC 9.3 which works with all Vodafone modems.

Upgraded - and now?

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestions. I've installed VMC 9.3 and the program itself seems to be working. Yet whenever I plug in the modem the old software still comes up automatically.

Thanks

Which I why I personally would have gone with VMC Lite. I have no experience with VMC 9.3 and the E220. I suppose you could disable autorun in Windows to prevent the old software from launching.

Right click 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'.

Then click on 'Disk Management'.

Select the Drive the E220 is associated with and right click it.

Select 'Change Drive Letter and Paths...'

Remove the Drive Letter(by clicking 'Remove') for the E220.

This should stop the E220 from Autorunning.

Working fine... BUT!

I have managed to get VMC 9.3 to work - yet now and again I get a "The connection was reset" error (I use FireFox). Sometimes if I Reload the page it does load but most often I have to disconnect and connect again.

And it seems that my connection is a lot slower. I don't know whether this might be another problem from Vodacom's side. But I've been working fine for more than 10 months and now all of a sudden I get problems.

Please help!

Kind regards

Then it is time to run some speed tests (at least 3) at speed.vodacom.co.za and post the results. If things look bad then you might need to call 155 and log a fault.

My brother had that a few weeks ago and we found that Zone alarms was blocking the connection. Try disabling your firewall and see if this makes a difference.

Speed is not such an issue - the fact that at times I don't have access to website even though the connection is still running is a concern.

I've tried working with and without the firewall on - no real difference.

Here's the speed test data:

Download Speed: 1128 kbps (141 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 326 kbps (40.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 359 kbps (44.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 216 kbps (27 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 577 kbps (72.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 293 kbps (36.6 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download Speed: 1089 kbps (136.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 305 kbps (38.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Any ideas?

Your speeds don't look that great to me. Generally when I have had issues where the connection is on, but I can't access pages it's because I can't resolve sites from the Vodacom DNS servers. When it happens again open a command prompt and run: nslookup www.google.com and see if it returns the IP or if you get an error.

Also location is useful, either update your profile or post it here.
