Huawei Mate 7

Played with the p8 lite last night. Not to bad, similar spec'd to my LG G3 Beat. I might just sell my Beat when it comes back from repairs(Endless intermittent reboots and battery issue) and get the p8 lite.
Is the p8 not in your price range?

Unfortunaley not. I would prefer the p8. The lite would be like a straight swap. R3099 cash at vodacom for the lite.

Looks like the P8 lite is very similar to a Galaxy A5 but quite a bit cheaper. That price of R3099 looks good , cheaper than Orange.

If I do manage to get rid of the G3 beat and get the Huawei, first thing will be to find the stock rom and re-flash to take all the Vodacom bloatware and boot screens off.

Yea cheaper than Orange and with a 2 year local warranty. Vodacom is surprisingly affordable sometimes.I think Vodacom realised that they are losing prepaid sales to Orange.

Can you please do me a favour?

Update this thread if you get the P8 lite from Vodacom. Let me know if Vodacom sells the dual sim version of the P8 lite(the second sim is placed in the memory card slot).

I have a theory that flashing the offical P8 lite firmware on the P8 lite vodacom version allows you to use dual sim function. To my knowledge there is only 1 P8 lite model and it is dual sim, the only way Vodacom can block dual sim usage is via custom firmware.

Thank you.

So I updated to the newest beta (B313) for the TL10 (gold) - now running 5.1.1, and no hassles.

The immediate benefits I have seen, besides having 5.1 underpinning the device, is the GPS power usage. 40 minutes in traffic this morning had me use 7% battery, whereas I would usually be at around 89% on KK.

Like! :)

I saw that Huawei SA posted that Lollipop should be arriving via OTA updates next month in SA as it is currently in testing with the networks in SA .

Good to know. Still haven't rooted this device. This is a record. someone contact Guiness... :erm:

Service also not that bad!! Bought a 2 month old used one and had some marks on screen(looks like screen burn and not phones fault) . Phoned Huawei and send them some pics with details of phone, got a call where to take phone and they will replace while I wait for it.

Only the Gold Dual SIM versions have 3gb of RAM IIRC.

Running Kit-Kat does Huawei not roll out OTA version of Lollipop on Mate & Ascend handsets in South Africa?

Yes they have issued updates , since I have had my Mate 7 iv received 2 updates already . As for Lollipop , it's on its way according to Huawei SA . It's apparently at the networks for testing and they expecting it to be rolled out during August sometime , well that is the last news I got from their Facebook page . They are also going straight to 5.1 and have skipped 5.0 . Honestly though , Kitkat is very smooth on the Mate 7 , I had Lollipop on my Nexus 6 and I can't say I miss it terribly in any way , iv been very happy with Kitkat on the Mate 7 personally .

Any teething problems since you've had the phone? Any issues at all?

Honestly I have had it now for around 3 months or so and No issues at all other than having to download My Data Manager (to set data limits etc) for the second sim , using the data usage app that came with the Mate 7 for sim 1 . It's been a pleasure to use otherwise with the best battery life Iv ever experienced on any Android phone thus far .

Covers and Screen protectors were a bit difficult to come by at first, but there is a lot more available locally now I see . It's one of the best Android devices I have used to date and in my opinion great value for money especially the Gold Duel sim variant with 3gb Ram . The fingerprint scanner at the back must be one of the best out there as it is very accurate and allows you to unlock the device going straight to the home screen with just a touch . It also allows one to lock apps (Notes etc etc ) with the fingerprint scanner .
