My E220 does that if GPRS is enabled. I think mine is damaged somehow. Trouble plugging it in without the simcard, change to 3G only. Unplug it, put in simcard and see what happens.

Query the modem via the diagnostic option in windows device manager. The output will show you which version firmware is on it. On the vodacom website you can download the new firmware. Or from the huawei website.

I would like to know what version is available, because the Firmware that you get from MTN and Vodacom is different. The Firmware that's available from Huawei is very much out of date and it seems that they do not cater for updates anymore. I had to search the web for updates and I did get a much up-to-date firmware, but still I still get disconnected every now and then. it seems that this is not a software problem, but more a vodacom problem, because everytime that my moned disconnect, i look on my cell phones, 2 of them, the signal is gone. It is not a software problem and I can bet that this is a problem with vodacom.

it is just very weird that when my modem disconnect, that my signal on my cell phone also is Zero.

On the Vodacom side there was some software upgrades.

Click this link to see a PDF with instructions on where to get it and the steps involved in fixing it.

To simplify for you , older versions of the VMC application had a hard-coded static dns server defined in the profile (the new version changes that to dynamic) as well as a few software enhancements (I don't have a changelog on the exact detail of the new software features though)

A fellow forumite produced a lovely little app called mdma [Mobile Data Monitoring Application]

http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma/

It displays your signal quality and allows you to connect to the internet, whilst it monitors your usage.

It also lets you check your balance using USSD commands.

Its simple and effective, and i use it alot because of its wonderful features.
If this program does not allow you to connect, then it would be a hardware problem with the modem.

I'm using an E220 and Mobile Partner. Recently I've had my connection drop and when I try to reconnect, I get "ERROR 720 A connection to the remote computer could not be established..."
Unplugging the device and reconnecting doesn't work either. The only way to get it to connect again is to reboot the PC.

I've updated the firmware to 11.117.09.04.00
Can anyone help with suggestions?

You Windows Network Configuration may be damaged or corrupt. You will need to get a technician to look at that for you. Its got nothing to do with your modem.
