Hi guys. What do you think of this phone? Would you consider it if Vodacom were to make it available at a good price point? I am starting to consider replacing my RAZR ... but dont want to spend a lot.

Any of you have good things to say about Huawei? Have they improved in quality?

Have sent a query to Vodacom asking if they are looking at this phone. Wonder if they are looking at it cause now we only have on Huawei model.

That's the issue if it's not priced at the same point as an S4 then it will do well, if it's priced the same people won't buy it. The brand itself isn't bad, my mother-in-law is using a huawei media pad tablet and had a old android phone with no issues.

"Huawei's Emotion UI."

Why do they bother?

Does it cost a lot to 'go nexus'?
I wouldn't think so I would think Google would want that kind of thing to help with their fragmentation issue.

Huawei P6 next to get Nexus treatment
If this happens i'll surely get the P6, i've played with the P1 and its a great phone nothing bad to say about it only that firmware updates might be an issue. So if it goes vanilla i'd get one if its cheap.

I was about to reply with the usual "smaller companies do not have great support for products". That is my only gripe with Huawei, their support sucks, or used to.

IF they go Nexus, then I'll definitely have a good look at them.

OK, not sure why the smaller players bother with their own UIs then...
Google will dictate hardware requirements, so if their hardware doesn't cut it at "Nexus" level they'll have to stick to going at it alone.

But that should not stop them from going stock android and doing s/w upgrades straight from google? They just call it a a Nexus phone?

The problem comes when you use non standard tech/hardware in your device. If it is not supported by the default android kernel then you need to compile your own kernel, thus making your own boot image, thus negating the need or want for "stock android".

Thx for the explanation. This is what I meant, if its not std(set by Google I guess) android hardware you're on your own.

Oh ok. Makes sense. Tnx :-)

Explains a lot :)

Hoping Huawei get going, if only to force Samsung etc to drop their prices...
