MTN have been advertising the P8 Lite 2017 quite often lately. I don't think they have the older model anymore.

Based on it now being almost certainly the P8 Lite 2017, do you think it will be a good upgrade for her? She wanted to get the same phone for me to use with my OnePlus 3 but I said no.

The OnePlus is a better phone but with the Huawei you are getting mid spec hardware and depending on the contract you can get the phone for free.

I'm staying with the Huawei P range, because of double tap for screen on, quick contacts add through the dialer (like a Nokia S40), draw a C etc for dialer on locked screen and various other little stock "things".
I don't want a third party dialer or other apps to do the above.

Edit: I don't fingerprint unlock (or at least I won't when I upgrade), so double tap is important.

P10 which I have upgraded to has fingerprint scan... and double tap is not an option. Took me a while to get used to it. Ive been tapping and nothing happens: eventually you remember... But finger scan is easy to use to unlock even without registering your prints...

Some of those other 'features' will still work... But the software is not exactly the same as the P8 lite.

I'm also using a p8lite 2017, there's no RDS radio not working and there's no NFC

Dear Slyza

Huawei P8 Lite does not support NFC and RDS radio. The Lite models will have less features than normal models.

I doubt the 2017 version is sufficiently different to the original.

I unlocked my 1st gen P8 lite after MTN told me it's not possible.
I wonder why?And also my 1st gen has NFC.

I know for the 2017 model
it's possible.

I got the 2017 model today, decent upgrade from the 2015 one. Was surprised that it comes with a screen protector and minimalist case.
