Huawei SA is still going strong despite dropping Google services

Lmao. Who wants to bother with that s**t when you can just buy an alternative flagship that has Google services. Not to mention the years of purchases in the Play Store that most people have accumulated. No one wants to spend flagship money on a new phone and then get into side loading apps.

And aren't there plenty of apps like Uber that use Google services to function, and are impossible to use on Huawei devices? How does WhatsApp automatically back up if it requires Google Drive?

Huawei is a garbage experience for Western markets without Google, end of story.

That doesn't mean anything yet. The switch to HMS is recent and Huawei and network stores are basically covering up that fact. I would bet money that the majority of their customers feel like they got a raw deal with the stupid hoops they have to jump through to get Google apps. And especially for the Google services that cannot be side loaded.

Not sure why you're defending Huawei so vigorously. It is objectively s**t to lose access to Google's apps and services.

Fact is that Huawei is still charging premium pricing for a lesser product. If I were to have to select a phone, I'd look at a Samsung or an iPhone. Huawei isn't even on my list. The idea of security is simple. Don't sideload apps from random sources. Sideloading APK's is a hackers dream. People downloading their favorite app out of desperation, sideloading anything, as long as it works.

Sorry, but a side loading argument is bullshit and shouldn't be valid. There is a reason why its a mission to sideload (its easy enough for lots, but its a massive process for those that are not familiar with Android). You should be banned for suggesting sideloading is fine, it isn't. There is more risks to sideloading as opposed to using Google Play Store or the Huawei App Gallery to obtain apps.

I am pretty much invested into the Google ecosystem. Once I am done with my current Huawei device they can kiss me goodbye.

Exactly. If someone refuses to deal with Google, the obvious alternative is Apple. Their privacy measures do seem commendable.

Look at the higher end. My post mentioned Premium. A P40 lite isn't premium, nor is it flagship.
 
My P40 Lite is brilliant! It is Android but without the Google toot. Someone mentioned no Android, they must clearly not know Android that well.

1. COVID-19 Tracking app is clearly because the SA government unable to upload it to the app store!
2. Every app that I need was found on the Huawei App Store, Findorra or Petal Search.
3. No Google Maps is fixed by the much nicer Waze!
4. YouTube works fine via the browser and you can even put a short cut on the home screen if you're bright enough!
5. Much less data used not updating unused Google apps like Play Music, Play Movies, Duo et all.

I'm just waiting for H-Mail to finish off G-Mail and we're done!

Donald Trump has shot Google in the head. At least I have a phone not controlled by a grumpy American!

HarmonyOS isn't open source. The Huawei Android builds are not open source. The HMS code isn't open source. Want to argue more about open source? This argument is getting boring quickly.

Who said go for an Apple iPhone 6 with 16GB of memory, I suppose you could add a memory card... On no wait, you can't! I don't even stock anything less that a 32GB memory card but a phone with 16GB, it's only just above a PEP Mobicel special.

Americans killed Nokia with Windoze.
Apple are killing themselves with overpriced junk.
Blackberry was killed by stupidity.
Trump is killing Google.

Any cell phone that's reliant on North America is doomed. The Apple iPhone may continue as a niche brand unless someone comes up with another overpriced must have bling willy replacement phone.
