If you're struggling, set up the primary router as you like it. Then reset the secondary router to defaults and simply hit the H button on both (or cable them up).
The red led at the front of the secondary router should turn green when successful

Ill reset it tonight and just run a lan cable to it. let see if my luck changes

Be sure to plug into lan on primary router and wan at secondary

Trying to mesh a Huawei B316 and the AX3 (Main router)
Is this possible considering both have the H button

Make sure you turn the bandwidth up on the 5Ghz channel because by default it’s not providing the full spectrum.
That being said 5Ghz will only really work in the same or very next room.
Now while being load shed my AX3 is covering the whole house And while I don’t have full signal I’m 4 rooms away and happily posting this.

Hmm I’ve never needed to do this.
The two AX3’s run LAN to LAN.
WAN port would mean a double NAT. Unless it does some magic to switch it to a mesh port or some such?
Then again I’ve never had the H button working and had to configure it manually. Maybe this is what makes it work. Documentation is deeply lacking.

Couldn’t find that off the Router’s own page and this is the first time I see it.
The H-buttons simply did not work as described for me.

Considering the whole thing shits the bed if you change it away from the default 192.168.3.0 range I’m not surprised it doesn’t work exactly as expected.
Reset the second router now and put the cable in the WAN and it’s just blinking red lights. Hit the button on both and no different.
Last time I had to manually log in and tell it to be a repeater and only then did it grab the settings.
But thinking about it the WAN port does make sense otherwise you’ll have two DHCP servers fighting.

None of the systems I set up are running on 192.168.3.x, so it's really weird that yours are being difficult.
Cabling them up was super easy. Simply config the primary router, reset the secondary router to defaults and then plug in the cable. No need to even press any buttons

Oh I remember now it was if you wanted to use the App you needed to keep the default IP.
But yeah did exactly that again now and it just doesn’t work and I can’t remember how the hell I fixed it the first time.
Are you using the HUAWEI as your DHCP server still?

Yes, DHCP on the primary router. I use the app (ai life) quite regularly on my non .3.x systems

Maybe it keeps working because it was setup before but with the AX3 on latest firmware it doesn’t show up in the App at all when it’s not on 192.168.3.1.
Will try turn the DHCP server on later to see if that makes the second one work.

I doubt it's that. I had my adguard server doing DHCP for a while and it still worked.
This is running on 192.168.0.x

I suspect there’s a magic packet in their DHCP options that does the work.
I also run an AdGuard DNS server and it works fine but I suspected all along you needed the IP to make it work as the App would simply say it’s offline if it was changed, but now I suspect it’s actually because I switched DHCP off.
Will test tomorrow, didn’t get a chance today.
When meshing a second unit, do not just press the H button at any time do the following process.
Power on the second unit, within a metre or 2 of the first unit that is already powered on and working, no need to cable them together. after a few seconds the 2 units will detect each other and their lights will start flashing at that point press the H button on the 2nd unit, the unit will pair and 2nd unit will go green as well. Once that is completed you can power off the 2nd unit and move it to your desired location.

So I can confirm it's definitely the DHCP Server that is required for the Meshing to work.
The moment you turn that on (or leave it on by default) then you can just run the cable as @Speedster advised and it just pairs and soldiers on without a hassle.
They much be using some special DHCPOption to do the configuration or detection.
After it's meshed you can happily turn the DHCP server off and use your own.
