Hubble Batteries

Upgraded all the firmware on the 3 batteries today

They had supplied revision 1.50, 2.50, 4.50 for the various versions of BMS

Steps:
Battery bank at 100% -> Good Solar day
1. Disconnected all the battery fuses
2. Updated Master Battery - the Newest one (it accepted Firmware revision 4.50)
3. Updated Original Battery - it accepted 2.50 only
4. Updated second battery - accepted 4.50 version of firmware <-- this is the battery that was working the hardest.

Then after the firmware was done.
1. Connected the Fuses again1.
2. then turned off all the batteries and on again (should have done this first). I didn't see the power switch

then also restarted solar assistant

-- Strangely on Solar Assistant
- Cycles on batteries have not changed. Still showing the same cycles. They did not reset to 0 ?
- Battery voltage is 54.1

As far as I recall AM2s use NMC type lithium right? I am not sure myself
Did you try update the battery thats on v2.5 again? Sometimes they won't let you skip too many versions and you need to go up a major version at a time.
Never thought to try that. Will do so again today when the batteries are over 50% - it's my oldest battery still on 2.50
im not saying i understand the logic behind these bms boards, why and what each update does, i was just saying what the AM5 battery did after the update
Yes, in my case, I am still concerned cos the second battery was using up cycles (according to Solar Assistant) in minutes sometimes. It's still doing that

Sadly checked again this morning, battery 2 is definitely fscked in some way. It went through a cycle in 3 minutes again. It's like think impossible for a battery to go through 1400 cycles in less than 2 year, especially since my min SOC was usually 50% always until the start of this month.

Will reach out to Hubble in the new year and see if they can come to assess the batteries in place.

Have updated battery firmware multiples times (not on hubble though) it retained all the log and other history each time.
 
How do you guys request an update again for hubbles?

I tried to update the original battery again to see if it would accept 4.50 (from the 2.50) as recommended, but it wouldn't so I guess that BMS only supports 2.50 revision .


It seems that maybe the batteries with the 4.50 version are having some wierd reporting issues - it could just be solar assistant. The new Hubble is also 'increasing' cycles quickly. These bloody hubbles!!

Okay so I have also noticed this and was not too sure if it was solar assistant or Hubble reporting.

Some evenings I noticed it would count twice or even 3 times for "1 cycle". I usually discharge from 100% - 20 %

I use solarman pro and have a cloudlink.

It is exposed via Solar Assistant which is connected to the Hubble Rs232 port on the master battery.

Why dont you use PBMS tools to read cycle count, it should work with your Solar Assistant cable. This will tell you if it is a firmware issue or a solar assistant issue. You can also correct the cycle count issue by writing the correct cycle count back to the BMS using this (but will void warrenty)

I seem to recall these use a Pace BMS, PBMS tools should work.

I am willing to give it a go just to see if the values it is showing matches what Solar Assistant is doing. Definitely won't change or write anything to it.

What's the latest version of PBMS? Google search showing 2.5 on PowerForum and someone else showing a v3?

You can use any version, does not matter.

What I have learnt is that each version has different functionality, and they dont build on each other.

There is a specific version that you need to write to the BMS, others can mostly only read and vary in the way they display the info.

Also important, there is a version that you can use to read via the modbus (called pbmsmodbus tools) and work using the RS485 port. Most other versions use the seriall bus, RS232 port

V2.5 should be good. Should be as simple as downloading, running the exe while the cable is plugged into battery and laptop and it should connect by itslef. Depening on your laptop and windows version you might need to install a driver for the serial port to read the data, PBMS tools will provide a prompt if needed.

Password, should you need it, is 123456.

Asked Hubble support to have a look as I have the RS232 USB cable.

Sorry for the kak pics had to quickly take photos while he was busy on Anydesk.

Battery 1, before he "recalibrated" it:

After he did the calibration, the SOH went back to 100% on both batteries. And the SOC increased somewhat.
He suggested I bring battery # 2 in for a cell repair. As you can see Cell #7 is giving issues.

Batteries are still under warranty. Just a fscking mission to take it in to JHB. I already did a cell replacement on Battery # 1 in the past.

Atleast I know the battery cycles now.
Batteries were installed in Dec 2021.

Good to know a cell replacement is possible and they not welded.

They are welded. Last time round they had to send my battery to CPT as they only have a welder there.
He tuned me today they moved the welder to JHB so will be quicker turnaround time.
