They would need to accept a large reduction in pay and benefits if they did leave. SAA pilots are very well compensated. I have first hand information.

But what would you rather have? A definitive job in an airline that is profitable (or at least not in Business Rescue) or a well paying job that could be yanked out from under your feet at any minute due to the entity being totally bankrupt and on the verge of collapsing entirely?

I'm saying this is one of the reasons why most haven't "jumped ship" yet. Waiting till the last minute. Also, there are no other international airlines based in South Africa, so at least all the international crew would need to move to another country potentially to fly for other airlines.

Yeah without a doubt.. Hell I would have stayed with the ship regardless of the crap if the pay and perks were that much better, especially with annual government bailouts almost being guaranteed. Now though, I'd be looking to jump ship as quickly as possible and setup a base overseas.
