Don't blame us, say SAA unions after threat of 'radical restructuring'

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the South Africa Cabin Crew Association (Sacca) have rejected sentiments in the public enterprises department that they caused damage to the airline's reputation.

Of course it's your fault. Had the strike not happened, things would've been different.
 
It beggars belief that there is always money for airplanes but never enough for food, water or transport. The ANC is more embarrassed at potentially losing an airline, than already having lost hundreds of towns, municipalities, infrastructure and assets to waste and corruption. It makes no sense.

Letting the airline fold would be admitting incompetence. It's much easier to (sand)paper over it and keep their en pride and enormous egos intact.

SAA is to be placed in business rescue, it emerged on Wednesday night.

In a letter to cabinet ministers and deputy ministers presidency director-general Cassius Lubisi informed the executive that President Cyril Ramaphosa had made the decision that the airline should enter business rescue in order to address its “dire situation”.

An official statement is expected later on Wednesday.

In the letter Lubisi states that business rescue “is the only viable route open to the government to avoid an uncontrolled implosion of the national airline”.

Good. Cyril's first step in the right direction. Business rescue persons will take one look at the books, shout fu"# this and push SAA into liquidation.

AT LONG LAST - as we were all saying: We, the taxpayers, can no longer afford to pay for SAA!
 
Lol. This was not a decision by Cyril Ramaphosa nor was it even his own preference. There is no more money left for bailouts. Not to SAA, not to Eskom, nothing. They have no other option. Business rescue will be a bad thing for the unions, the airline staff and the airline itself. If government interference is going to happen at any time during this process, the implosion they have been warned about may well just happen and collapse the country in total.
