huge satellite dishes?

thanks, but some seem to be crap channels is there a way of watching americas top channels like hbo, fox, mtv, etc similar to our dstv but only better

Those big satellite dishes are called C-Band dishes. It picks up channels that are broadcast on the lower "less used" frequencies. Thus most channels that can be picked up by a C-Band dish are free channels, and some of them are actually very good channels. Check out lyngsat.com for details.

I Think Sky Satelites should work here in africa. Since they all work for Colombia(south america) as well as Neu Zeeland and Australia.

Don't expect our goverment to publicly announce competition to the multichoice (mono choice) cashcow tho. You have to contact them yourself :) They won't have any branches in South Africa. You could possible transfer money overseas if they use Moneybookers. That is what I like to use for my online Purchases.

No. There is NO way you can pick up the unbelievably brilliant amazing UK Sky TV service in SA at all. Neither in South America. Where did u hear that? And the Sky service in New Zealand (can also be picked up in Aus) is completely different and unrelated to the Sky TV service in the UK.

Correct, Sky in the UK use the Astra 2 satellite which has a footprint mainly over Western Europe.

Details here

Some of the huge satelites you may find in and around SA were installed long before isdn and adsl were out, they were used as faster internet connection, and is probably still being used today.

thanks for the info will just have to keep dreaming of watching good tv shows and live with the out of date and 100 reruns of the same crap

I played a game online with a guy form collumbia. He said they had sky satelite feeds in his country.. where do you get your info from?

Due our geographic location there really nothing much available here except DSTV. You can pick up American Armed Forces tv but it is very well scrambled these days so you have no hope of actually watching anything on that. And you can pick up some French language subscription channels broadcast to Reunion, Mauritius etc.The rest is all Rhema type religious channels. The long and short of it is, don't waste your money

First off, you spell the country's name Colombia. Seconly, we also get feeds of Sky Sports News on SuperSport for instance. And DStv also feeds Sky News. Zone Reality also comes off the Sky TV network. You must've misunderstood the guy. Trust me. There is absolutely no way he can pick up the real Sky TV signal at all.

Zone Reality is fta all over the world and doesn't come off the Sky network. It was fta here too before dstv lock it.Its just part of Sky as fta, same with Virgin and Freesat.

The satelites to look out for are Sirius 4 and the newly launched Telstar 11N
