why dont you get some taxi's painted up? Here in London they often do advertising in this way, think of the black cabs, the busses, heck, you can even rent a vehicle which is basically a bicycle with one large billboard on each side, and the guy will just cycle around central london the whole day, getting seen.

Go 50/50 with some taxi's, you pay half, they pay half.
you get your slogan out, they get a new paint job to make their taxi look more respectable. And recognisable.
Not a bumper sticker on the taxi, paint the whole darn thing. Bright yellow with black lettering or something. In and out of joburg all day long probably get a million people staring at it.

a spray job on a vechile is a good couple of thousand, we cant afford this atm
 
Um, help a guy from CPT out here, what does phansi mean? Is it down?
I like alot of these ideas though.. wonder if it will really make a difference, I mean shure Telkom wont be happy and we will be happy but both of those groups already know what Telkom is doing, will regular people notice and do something about it?

Suggested slogans:
"Telkom. Because they can."
"SA needs fast, cheap internet. Instead we're stuck with Telkom ADSL"
"No phone, no internet, no future. No thanks to Telkom."
"Telkom: less service, less quality, less staff = more profits"
"Telkom. Just dial 666 for instant torture"
"Telkom. There aint no landline near you"
 
The intersection closest to the DOC offices. (Don't know which one it is) Maybe this will wake up the sleepy Communications minister. At the moment she is in Tunisia but when she comes back she has to get driven to work sometime.

Imho that would be a waste of money.

Print 1 000 fliers and hand them out at robots, Ill help hand them out
 
I reckon you should go the "Unproudly South African - Telkom" bumper sticker / banner / flyers route. Just think how much of an impact it'll make considering everything these days is all about "Proudly South African". Just a thought
 
I recon the posters would be better - it presents more of an organisation working towards something - also it is more likely people will take notice of a poster than a bumber sticker ;)
 
Firstly let me say that I hate stickers on cars, don't even allow the car dealers to put their junk on, but it will however be delighted to put a MyADSL, Hellkom, Antitrust sticker on my car.

Must have horns !

I would buy a 100 to stick on every Telkom van I see.

Newspaper articles are fine, they cost money or you have to have a news worthy story. Lifespan of the average newspaper = 1 day or less.

I love the "paint a taxi idea" , it is only a matter of time before a panelbeater joins MyADSL ranks ; if not already.

I don't like roadside advertising aka billboards, visual clutter - no retention, your message has to be conveyed in less than a second.

Can't we do a barter trade with ITweb for banner space ?
 
Just a thought on the stickers/flyers. The message must be short and to the point, I think we should stay away from mentioning ADSL, Broadband, ISPs etc. It must be targetting for the average joe (THE MASSES!) so simply highlighting how expensive calls are in some catchy way should be a starting point without any jargon...

Most people can't even say ADSL right (ASDL is a popular choice)...
 
how about car bumber / window stickers that simply reads: antitrust.co.za or myadsl.co.za or screwthepublic.co.za or hellkom.co.za
 
The problem with bumper stickers are that most people here in South Africa are uninformed and would probably have no idea what the .co.za means. Half have never seen computers. Now we put this catchy phrase onto a bumper that you have to read 5 times to actually understand due to all the computer jargon in this phrase.... Common it will never make any impact.

If you want a bumper sticker, I suggest :

Telkom overcharge the public by up to 1000%

We obviously cannot encourage people to vandalise Telkom property in this way, but should you act of your own will, then hell, we can't stop ya!

I agree that newspapers have a limited lifespan, but I don't think we should reject them outright. I'm thinking maybe an ad in the Sowetan, or the Daily Sun might help us get our message out.

I like the 'paint a taxi' idea. However something that needs to be considered is the law on defamatory advertising. dominic, alacos.... would be be allowed to explicitly mention the word "Telkom" in any kind of advert (although I'd consider it more of a Public Service Announcement!)?

My personal opinion is that people who read ITWeb are likely to be aware of much of the controversy surrounding Telkom. I think maybe we should try reach out to the ordinary guy on the street instead of those who probably already are aware of the problems.

By the way, does anybody know of a company in Cape Town or surrounding areas who prints stickers? Preferably in the CBD area. Please drop me a PM if you do.
 
i kinda like bumper stickers - not much else worth smiling at in sa traffic these days ;)
don't like actually putting them on my car, though - makes too much of a mess
how about using those stickers that stick to the inside of your rear window, without actual glue?
anyway, a couple of ideas:

"Affordable Internet - Fiction at it's best
Bankrupting you now at Telkom Stores nationwide"
