Telkom vs. MyADSL.co.za

The message has to be short and sweet.

A "MyADSL" sticker will also ensure that I don't run any of the peeps off the road.

It would make the morning commute more interesting knowing there are some others out there.

PS. So does anyone have a MyADSL tattoo as yet ?
 
IIRC, most taxis are white...so a black vinyl sticker along the side is probably a better/cheaper way than repainting the whole thing and is quick and easy to apply..

I'm thinking along the lines of a study once done that the highest bandwidth is obtained by packing a 747 jumbo full of dvd's...low latency, but good bandwidth...so some catchy slogan on the side of the van like "faster than telkom broadband, and cheaper too! visit myadsl.co.za"...just mumbling out loud, but I am sure someone can come up with a better slogan.

thats a brilliant slogan... ironic as hell, we'll make people laugh with that, especially if it's on a taxi that just cut you off! "faster than telkom broadband"

By handing out material (stickers/pamphlets etc.) at the entrance to telkom shops on a designated day we could literally send out a message to the whole of SA. 7000 members spread throughout the country handing out material. By been at their front door, you have qualified Telkom customers or potential ones, who are more than likely not aware of the issues at hand.
By planning this all on one day, you will no doubt get media coverage, possibly better than a splintered approach, where Joe Bloggs hands out on a friday morning in Welkom and Tannie Magda hands out on a saturday morning in De Aar (Tannie Magda is a MyADSL member :0) )

Nice input air, and you make a good point. Problem is that there are not many people willing to go and do this. What do others think of air's idea, and would you be willing to go one saturday for an hour and hand out anti-Telkom stickers and info? Maybe we can compile a list of people who are committed enough to do this.

Sounds like a VERY good idea - and it will get the message right into the areas that it needs to be: not so well off communities as well as business districts - i think it pretty much reaches all the relevant people.

Anyone got contacts at Comuta Net - i think they are the biggest taxi advertising agency. If we can put our "Telkom is screwing us all" pitch to them we might be able to get a little sponsorship/support or at least assistance from them...

Just my 2 cents regarding the stickers, which I think are an excellent idea.

Maybe it would be a good idea, once a sticker design has been decided on, to sell them? Have some printed that can be handed out at protests for free but also have some that people can order from the Antitrust site or something. Not expensive, R5 or R10 each, but at least that'll cover costs and maybe help out financially with future projects/protests/initiatives. Some people may have friends that sell things at flea markets and that sort of thing and they could go on sale there too? :cool:

I really like the "Honk if you hate Telkom" one - printed it out landscape on plain A4 paper and stuck it in my back windscreen with prestik :D

edit: just took another look - there's more stickers every day it seems. From a single page its now grown into an entire site!!!
 
Heh, ambo you're right, it has turned into a whole website! Verrrrrry nice!

We probably will sell the stickers at whatever it costs us to make them and post them. At the moment we have no idea how much they are going to cost. We don't have a company yet to print them - but I emailed several companies this weekend so hopefully I will get replies today or tomorrow.
 
I had some stickers printed by a local firm using the Telkom screws SA logo on the Hellkom site. Cost me R20 for 4 but the quality wasn't so great. However, they are on various vehicles getting the message out. If you have some quality stickers done I'll buy some. I'm just waiting for my Hellkom - prices to make you sweat t-shirts and I'll be wearing them to work. Geez something has to work and make Ivy take notice.

I also don't hugely fancy the idea of sticking stuff on my bumper - but i'm more than willing to stick a little "bumper sticker" in my back window.

10 mins of your time

and you will be making a useful contribution to educating our nation of the oppression we are under
 
just check the laws first...there are limits to how far a sticker/accessory can encroach on the front and rear windscreens,

a4 is pushing it, from what I remember

yes i remember they started getting quite sticky about that recently...
The image doesn't actually fill up a whole A4 page - so i cut off the excess white space to make it smaller for that very reason... sorry forgot to mention :D

Punchy facts about Telkom versus other telcos worldwide. Such as the fact that Telkom makes 5.8 X the profit of BT pro rata (whatever the exact figure is), and that in the U.K. one can get ADSL uncapped + free local and national calls for about 40 pounds per month.

Stuff that Telkom can't complain about or litigate about because it is provably true.
