Hugh Bladen

I think our problem with commentating is although we use just as many ex-players as the Aussies or Kiwis do; ours are just not up to being put in front (or behind) a camera. The only two who do a semi decent job are Stransky and Skinstad.

True. I like joel. And Mickey hit the nail on the head

But I still enjoy ESPN, watch it on Saturday with the college football. They are good at getting you hyped up. ESPN has turned commentating into an art form.

Spot on. The old school professional commentators appear to be a thing of the past. Guys who cut their teeth on radio commentary, who had to describe a picture to their listeners.

Gerhard and Charles ?

Locally I quite like Matthew Pearce, too. Gets very excited.

On the Kiwi side I enjoy Grant Nisbett. Old school commentator with a lot of interesting background info.

Jeff Wilson and Justin Marshall I like for the players' perspective they bring.

The Aussies are very entertaining, though. Especially Sean Maloney. :D

Talking about commentators, why are the locals adopting that horrendous Ozzie pronunciation of "penalise"? The word is "PEA-ne-lize", not "PENNIL-ize". HB succumbed a few seasons ago.

My new gem was ex player, three from the left, entrusted with stadium commentary and player interviews repeatedly referring to the Lions/Bulls game as a: "Top of the clash."... I know he meant the log but my brain cramped up. Anyway, next week, the Saaks.

I can't stand Hugh Bladen. He always sounds like he's drunk, and often gets the names of players wrong. My favourite bunch are the Kiwi commentators. TJ and Mexted + most others.
Locally Andy Cap is pretty good.

As for Afrikaans commentators. Pathetic nowadays. Especially the new bunch. No offence to Werner Swanepoel, but a guy with a speech impediment shouldn't be a sports commentator. And some new idiot, Ettiene something, keeps talking about "skeinsregters"
If you don't know how to pronounce it, stay off the air.

I would take skeinsregter any day over Toks van der Linde's "JOH" and now a days sounds like he starts and ends every sentence with it.

Agree. "Spiekeries"

One of his best.

I get chills just listening to that, guess that's why Bok van Blerk used it in one of his songs.
I personally prefer the Afrikaans commentators, I find them more entertaining and passionate.

Wow so many great commentators mentioned here, a bit off-on topic, worst cricket commentator has got to be Paul Harris atm. I cannot stand him.
