Ok so I'm turning to MyBB for answers once again cos it seems like the only place to get any help.

A friend of a friend is a visiting SA in December on a budget but wants to go hunting for a few days. Can't afford the cost of a safari tourist hunt, and in any case, just wants to experience 'ordinary' hunting in SA. Doesn't mind what he hunts, not interested in a trophy of any kind, happy to shoot for culling / meat / biltong or whatever. Can bring his own rifle from the UK. Happy to pay reasonable costs for 2/3 days hunting on a farm somewhere between Oudtshoorn and Cape Town. I have been trying to hunt up (pun intended) a contact myself for weeks and getting no-where.

Does anyone know of a farm(er) or is a farmer who can offer him some hunting for a reasonable more local rather than tourist orientated price?

I even asked at the butchery today I'm getting that desperate because they buy a lot of meat from hunting but no luck.

Oh perhaps I should add that he is experienced with shooting fallow deer in the UK. He goes and helps out a ranger friend with culls regularly.

There was a thread here recently with links and what not - it's in my post history somewhere if you can't find it (as respondent - not my thread). One of the okes that responded there will surely know.

Don't see you getting too far away from the tourist stuff though. Realistically he is going to need a guide / experienced SA hunter plus some kind of processing facilities.

Not sure if it's possible to bring meat back to UK though. Probably not...they're quite anal about meat imports.

Is Middelburg in the Eastern Cape too far?

I think you misunderstood me, he isn't interested in the meat / end result just in the enjoying of the hunting. Can't take it back, can't use it while on holiday so whatever is shot will be for the use of the farm.

Nope. I got that part. Was more thinking out loud. I'm in the UK too so aware of how cool it'd be to bring meat back.

Hope the oke comes right though.

Thanks. Me too. As for the meat I'm pretty sure there are mega regulations that are a teeny bit of a problem.

"Game ranch" google , plenty game ranches that hunt year round normally only males .
Some ranches have game guides .
Non trophy animals are also much cheaper than trophy animals , warthog and springbok or impala normally the cheapest .

Tried that, prices seemed aimed at the rich and famous who want trophies. This is not what he would like to do.

Try areas not well known for hunting and are not 5 star , i know there are a couple in Greytown not sure in the areas you are looking at .

Basically anywhere between CT and Oudtshoorn, can be along N2, Route 66 or N1 as all roads lead to Rome. Shall follow up on the Greyton suggestion, thanks.
