Hydroponic Gardening DIY

Ok ... as per requests :- My DIY Tunnel. This is what I started with:

38 X 38 batons, 20mm PVC conduit, 90deg corners & wood screws ;)

Cut Batons & PVC to required lengths & Drilled my holes for the PVC

Laying out & assembly of the top section

Top completed flat on the ground

Base assembled next to the top

Brother and myself lifted the top section and connected to the bottom

Then we just completed the wood door frame sections and moved it into its place next to my garage. Will show more pics soon, but that was my basic structure +- 3hrs to cut & assemble.

Screw my design, I want this.Questions

1.Is there anything holding those pvc pipes in place because i live in a windy area.

2.How much did the wood and pvc cost in that last pic?
 
Awesome thanks for posting Sir fooking. @Batista at the moment I'm using water from the tap as is. PH meter only arrived this week now I need calibration fluid (pH 4 specifically) so only after that will I know exactly. At the moment my seedling are mostly lettuce and tomatoes with some basil and other herbs.

I just need to find my other pics with the door areas completed, which stiffened up the design considerably. The plastic over the structure pulled it all nicely tight. So far it has not collapsed .. yet. Even been through a storm or two...

Awesome thanks man - mine will be a little shorter than yours - i dont want it to stick out too much from the loft.

Where did you buys the buckets from?
Actually for reference where did you buy the rest of the goodies?
 
Buckets I bought directly from Evernu Plastics (through my company), Wood and hardware bits from BUCO, PVC from a local electric supplier (also through my company). The gromets I found a place online in JHB (would have to search for that again). The pearlite I got from a major Lake Foods ... Plastic I got from a local supplier that does greenhouse equipment for farmers.

What size grommets did you use for the 20mm PVC pipe? (I battled with that)
 
I need to double check. I think it was inner of about 22....

Busy pruning right now. Tomatoes growing nuts...


Edit... 25mm gromet.

Thats where i will be in 3 months time hopefully!!!
How are you going to pollinate the tomatoes, since not that much wind can get in there?Electric toothbrush?

Air is free flowing, my doors are made from shade cloth. I just ate my first ripe tomato ... wow, was nice, almost sweet.

Ah cool awesome man.I would like you to do a little experiment if you have space in your greenhouse.Plant the exact same tomato variety in organic soil mix of worm castings,peat,perlite and compost for a taste comparison?
Im dropping the height of your design to about 1.4/1.5 m and going to put a stool on wheels because thats how i roll.
How tall are those tomato plants at the moment?
 
Tomatoes can be grown horizontally.
Just create runs in your tunnel.
No reasons to always go upwards.

Cool, im a fan of training plants horizontally, but i have never grown tomato before.Will get some chicken wire and make a tube cage.Mine wont be as tall because its all soil for me.

What varieties are you growing?

I want to get at least some christa, tigerella, valentine, brandywine and black zebra tomatoes going.
