If everyone shared your opinion, the Western Cape would've been just as bad as the rest of the country. Obviously YOUR vote probably won't make a difference, the problem is that if thousands of people think like you, then it makes a huge difference.

We've got a real bunch of pillocks in this thread, don't we? I'd just like to remind you "OMG VOTE OR DIE" twits that democracy also gives you the right NOT to vote if you so choose. If you have a problem with that right, hey guess what? You have a problem with democracy. So basically you're hypocrites.

I'm glad to know hypocrites are voting for change. Really gives me hope for our country's future.
 
The Western Cape is proof that democracy is working. The problem is the massive numbers of idiots who blindly vote for the ANC or for the useless parties that are too small to do anything, and the lazy useless people that don't bother to vote but still have the audacity to whine. They all deserve what they get.

They can suffer while the rest of use move to another country and leave them behind. Countries get the governments they deserve, if you can't be bothered to get rid of the crap government SA has then you deserve to suffer under their leadership.

I fully agree with the act of scratching your ballot. It is a clear form of political protest. As w1z4rd says it demonstrates that you approve of the democratic process and the right to have your say in your government but that nobody represents you.

You are telling our country that you have made the effort to go out there and that you clearly care about politics. That if there was a party or candidate that you felt represented you then you would have voted for that one but that you currently feel that nobody represents you. If you sit at home and don't vote it could just mean you're lazy which is not the message you want to send. You want your country to know that while you support democracy and want to be a part of picking our new leaders you are disillusioned by the current state of our politics.

Well done to you sir on exercising your democratic right.

If you dont believe that any of the available options/parties would contribute then don't vote. In America you have a choice of either Republicans or Democrats and they are not doing such a great job.

There are other smaller independent parties in the USA.
 
He sounds a lot like a cultural Christian in that he believes in spirituality (that oh wow feeling you get when you gaze at the stars) and holds Christian values, but doesn't believe in God or Jesus walking on water.

To all the Atheists out there, how do you explain the beginning of everything? Do you believe existence manifested from nothingness?

Choosing to be agnostic seems to me to be the most logical and balanced choice when one begins to wonder where humanity came from and where humanity is headed.

Just my 2c.

Okay, do atheists believe in science, or do they just not believe, nor think about anything they cannot see, hear, or smell?

Who's to say that time doesn't end? Just because something doesn't happen doesn't mean it won't. You can prove the existence of something, but you cannot prove it's non existence.

And by the way, if something doesn't end, it doesn't necessarily mean it didn't begin. If you take a coin into space, put it onto a table, then spin it, then remove the table, that coin would spin forever, until some force acts on it to stop it from spinning. That is Newton's First Law. So the coin doesn't stop spinning, yet it BEGAN spinning.

MiyagiDono, you are over-complicating the term. Atheists come in all sorts of flavours, and believe all sorts of things. Just not in the existence of gods. As an aside, atheism and agnosticism aren't mutually exclusive - I, and I'd hazard most people who identify themselves as atheists, would be best described as agnostic atheists.

As for the person quoted in the OP - he isn't an atheist by any definition of the term, just another moron.
