How can i stop people from spamming me?

I recieve up to 22 e-mails per day spamming me.

Anything from viagra to cheap jewelry.

I do not open them and delete them as soon as i get them, but it is irritating and tedious.

Now someone even hacked me.

I am using e scan virus protection.

Am running microsoft malicious software removing tool at the moment.

Is there anything i can do about the spamming?

I noticed that it is worse since i joined this forum.
I also removed my e-mail adress in my user CP.

I am desperate. Any help?

No wisecracks please.

your email program has a filter/rules function.
set rules according to subject which is easiest.

it's a chore, but that's the best unless you want to buy some product.

contact you service provider where your email is hosted and ask them for spam filters on your account.

Move to Google Apps as your hosting provider, I never get spammed there.

I found the rules section.

I think i added all the words i can think off.

Thank you very, very much.

You improved the quality of my life today.

Once again thank you!

EDIT:
don't forget to add more, as you go along, you will find spam decreasing rapidly...

Google Apps is brilliant. I get about 100 spams a day and only the odd one slips through about once a week.

Googles spam filtering is pretty darn good. :)

Come now, you know thats an understatement :D

Our whole companies email gets sent via gmail to be cleaned.
No rules, no fuss, and email backup thrown in for free!

As I think everyone pretty much eluded to:- spam filtering should be occurring at you ISP's server. If more than 5% of your incoming mail is spam then you should be looking for a new service provider that knows how to deal with spam properly.

In my experience it is quite possible to achieve less than 1% spam in your inbox with a properly configured server running at your ISP.

Also remember that between 70% and 95% (depending on the week) of the bandwidth that is currently being used for mail on the internet can be attributed to spam. If your ISP is not effectively filtering all this rubbish out of your inbox before you download it you will be wasting large amounts of bandwidth. I have had a lot of success with Thunderbird's trainable spam filter but that should be considered as the last line of defense against spam.
