I sang Vista's praises in the past, and tried to overlook some hang-ups ... but now it is final...

I am going back to tried and trusted XP.

Vista just give me to many random errors and DX10&Aero is not worth the pain.

XP here I come.

My Vista Home Premium boots up in round about 20 seconds, my apps with a correct page file setting takes about 4 seconds to load, Age of Empires starts in 9 seconds and loads in 10.. in other words, I'm happy with my laptop running Vista ;)

I tried VISTA so many times, I just always end up using XP again.
On my main PC, i use XP, on my server (mom's PC) I have Vista running - I never use the PC that often anyways.

I have Vista on my laptop. I really only use it to browse and play some Football Manager. But it runs pretty good on a Centrino 2.16GHz with 2GB RAM. Given I can't run any games due to its videocard capabilities I will probably keep a very small install of Vista and run FM over Wine in Linux. But that's really as a result of the hardware rather than Vista itself.

mmm just download This install styler and copy Vista VG to C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes and you have XP looking live Vista with no performance impact! :D

Yip, it looks as good and works 100 x better using way way less resources.

Someone says that vista loads in 20 seconds - mine takes about 1 minute to load ... after optimising my bios quick boot settings .

Now for some reason my dvd writer disappears on me forcing a reboot and everytime I shutdown there is this message that says explorer.exe is still running. Driving me mad!

Same here. If not more than 1min. And thats after I just bought a new PC.

Once holidays start (ETA: 7 days:cool:) I'm going to load XP SP3 too. Just not sure yet whether it is worth delaying that to play through Crysis @DX10 first. Heard somewhere that (nearly) same effect can be achieved with a few console commands on XP.

I did the Crysis Very High hack on a friend's computer yesterday evening, works a treat ;)

I got to be honest - I played Crysis on XP and Vista and I could not really see teh difference ..... I was just trying not to getting freaking killed in the game to worry about dynamic lighting and true-to-life shadows :)

Cool. Thats settled then.

The things about Vista that gets to me is the sluggish feeling. I hate it when the PC can't keep up with what I'm doing (Which is not even very resource intensive).

Weird how some people like tera report that Vista is cruising nicely. Wonder what causes it to work better on some PCs.

Maybe tera has gone past teh point of no return with Vista. For me I am just gonna format that mother-facker.

You are right about Vista just being sluggish. I have a dinosaur here at work with 512MB ram and it feels faster than when I work from. Yet at home I have a killer PC system.

A bit off-topic : but has anyone loaded XP and Vista on the same HDD? Any problems with this dual boot arrangement?

Lots of problems, just google a bit. Sometimes files get deleted in Vista when running Xp and vice versa.
