Ok so i quit smoking on the 27 dec 2008, since then i need to eat all day long, have cravings for all kinds of foods and sweets. The worst of thing is if i do not eat all day long i get into a terrible moods, almost violent moods.

I have not touched a cigi since i quit so i don't think i am addicted, i seem to have days where i am depressed and don't know if life is worth it type feelings, please note i am not suicidal.

I am on the brink of smoking again because i cannot handle all the eating and the moods anymore, I am also not really putting on weight with all the eating so its not a weight thing, i am just not used to needing to eat every hour and being in such a bad mood at times.

Is this normal and will it ever stop? I would rather smoke than feel like this for the rest of my life.

Have you read 'Easy way to stop smoking' by Allen Carr? A colleague of mine read it and it helped.

Good luck, I have never smoked so I unfortunately have no way of relating to your experience.

Just be strong.... i'm clean for 4 months now, had bad depression... it goes away. Just be strong.

Go to the gym or try to exercise everyday. I never smoked but I think some exercise can help a lot.

After 3-6 months you should not be on the rampage every day any more ;)

Just keep at it and yeah maybe try and exercise a bit.

You'll lose the weight (or not ;)) and the cravings will fade over time.

Ok, just reading this thread has inspired me a bit, so I'm giving up too. Just put out my last one. Wish me luck.

Sjoe, best of luck with your road to a healthier lifestyle. It might sound crazy, but some friends of mine did the hypnosis thing to quit smoking & food addiction and say it worked for them. Maybe you could look into that.

I've heard quite a bit is having to do nothing with your hands, which you're used to.

Got a girlfriend?

TBH I think it's only psychological. If someone told you you will crave men and their buttholes after quitting smoking you would be more inclined to do that.

If you REALLY are struggling I'd recommend a good multivitamin. Your body just tells you what it needs and these cravings are just that. "Needs for nutrition"

I don't think it's withdrawel symptoms either. Check your daily schedule, do you work out less than you did before quitting? Do you eat less healthy than you did before the day?

I reckon your initial cravings for nicotine made you spiral out of control in terms of eating habits. Junk food = Depressive food. You'll feel good for an hour or two but afterwards feel like crap, depressed/headaches etc.

Also make sure you drink enough water.

Reckon you'll survive without going back to the cancer sticks easy. You just need to sit down and logically think why this might be happening

Still early days killa bru .... unfortunately what you're feeling like can last up to 3 months :o Just find an outlet for the energy and most importantly, keep your hands busy (I had one of those squeeze balls and it helped loads, hehe). Keep it up bru :D

Yea i have a fiancee, i don;t have any problems with weight so the eating part is not the end of the world, its just this hungry feeling all day ain't lekka, also i have no problems with missing cigi's as i do not ever want to smoke again its just this depression and mood swings that are killing me :)

Anyways if it goes away then ill rough it out and hope my fiancee will as well :p

Acid yea man for the first week of quiting i ate chocolate's,ice-cream just about anything junk i could get my hands on and it has not really changed much, yea i must stop eating all this junk and maybe start working out a bit. Water is not a problem as i only drink water and nothing else, around 2-3 glasses an hour.

That hungry thing, that's what nicotene was hiding for you.
As soon as America went anti-smoking ... their obese population arrived, no coincidence.

I quit smoking 4 years ago, but I just recently gave up caffeine as well, and my hunger feelings are allover the place .. aaaarg .. AGAIN!
So, now I eat a lot of flipping carrots, and I am hoping the hunger thing will pass soon.

Fasbyt Killer!

Then that's definately your problem dude. Its funny how, sometimes, depression can linked to something as simple as food and nothing else.

Sugar makes you high
After your high you crash

Basically what happens with your mood swings is, to get the high again without food, is to get angry.

Anger = Adrenalin
Adrenalin makes you high

And thats all sugar's fault. It gives you such a a high that the crash is so low that you need to compensate for it somehow.

Repeat with me.

a steady bloodsugar level is a level headed killa ;)

I had my last smoke this morning at about 7am ... will see how it goes

Hahaha Acid ya from tomorrow no more sugar, well not alot anyhow :p

Landy just remember one thing dude, eat as if your life depended on it for the next 7 days because the mood swings are 20x worse than what i get if you don't get your tummy full :).

You could also get appetite suppressants, that's what i used to stop the cravings, well help with them anyhow :), infact i will start them again tomorrow see if they help
