I agree i would not be able to get anywhere with a book. So i have a interactive site i'm working onI learnt German when I moved over there. I would never be able to learn it from a book though. You have to be surrounded by it and understand the humour associated with the language.
Just rent french movies ... that way you see actions/objects/movements associated with words.
Just for the record, the French hate the English speaking tourists. You get much more cooperation from them if you speak Afrikaans, because they presume you are either Dutch or Flamish.
not really. those 'helpful' bastards just glare at you at charles de gaulle airport when you ask for help, afrikaans or not. bloody french. do remind me to insist on speaking afrikaans should a frenchie ever ask me for help.![]()
I did not have the slightest problem with them. But then I did not treat them like idiots for not having English as their native language.Just for the record, the French hate the English speaking tourists. At a French airport...
A group of American retired teachers recently went to France on a tour. Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, was part of the tour group.
At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry-on.
"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.
Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.
"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."
The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."
"Impossible!" barked the officer. "Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France."
The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained.
"Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in '44 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find any Frenchmen to show it to."
