I bought a Chromecast

I got one. Not exactly sure what it does. A friend said I should get one as it's something I will enjoy. Anyone care to provide a summary?

It's used to encrypt credit card data but I've collated a number of threads for your perusal.

Haha, thanks for the sarcasm, perhaps I should be clearer.

I know it's a media player. But what makes it special beyond that? For example, I saw in a few pages previously in the thread that it can mirror what my phone shows. Any other cool, unique-ish, things it can do besides that?

You can watch the prons.

Had one ... Returned it. Hulu and netflix just wouldn't work. For those two a atv is best.

Sounds like you didn't have your dns set up correctly. It's a bit trickier with the chromecast due to the fact the dns on the device is hard coded.

I have yet to receive mine but I am already thinking of ways to use it & uses for it.

I dont have uncapped at home so would primarily want to use it with local content.

Obviously there is Plex to stream local vids but I dont see what Plex would offer me over my current setup with XBMC & Yatse.

So I am looking for other useful apps/uses.

So far I have found some interesting apps to use with it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stefanpledl.localcast&hl=en https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.videon.android.mediaplayer&hl=en

Anything you guys can recommend? What is the best way to cast Music from my phone's local storage?

Ordered from Takealot first week in June. Had a 3A24 serial number.

Those exploitable bootloaders are long gone.

Got the Chromecast, set my router to block Google DNS and go through Unlocator's own DNS. In the setup of the Chromecast, obviously choosing 'USA' as your country is the only sensible way to go, right?

Has anyone had success using a Chromecast with a Telkom branded router? (telkom duoplus 300 WR router)

Are you having a problem connecting it to that router?

Yes, unfortunately. Tried setting up static routing as per some of the manuals for other routers, but no luck.

Was for a friend.

Oh well, friend must get a new router. (because I'm still not good enough at this!)

I think the chromecast is awesome, but there is one f@cking frustrating problem I usually have after load shedding, internet down for some reason etc. It will then for some reason or the other not connect to my router(internet). That will sometimes want me to ****ing torch the thing with a flamethrower.

But, then all of a sudden it will work the next day, wtf:confused::mad:

This usually lasts just a few minutes for me. Go into the Chromecast app on smart device, and see if trying to connect to it through there does anything.
