I have been battling since May 2015 to get Telkom to transfer my ADSL line to my new premises. For the past 6 months I have been back and forth just to make them understand that I wanted to transfer the line. And all along Telkom kept on demanding money. I paid a few times even though I tried to explain to them I had no service since I moved out. Every time I was told before they could proceed to the next step a payment HAS to be done, which I did. And when I followed up again I was told no request for transfer was made I need to pay. I think once or twice I was given a partial credit but was still liable for some payment. I finally received a sms last week 13 November 2015 "Dear Customer, we are saddened by your decision to cancel your ADSL service and hope that you will reconnect with us again soo. Your reference number is (129764515) Regards, Telkom."
Does it mean I'm not going to get the line transferred?

Could someone please suggest an alternative to Telkom? I'm in desperate need of ADSL line.

For ADSL you don't have a choice other than Telkom.

Hopefully you took FTTx into consideration when you moved? If so, choose from the providers in your area.
Otherwise, you are out of luck

Unfortunately you can't give up on Telkom if you want ADSL in south Africa.

I had a similar experience and had to cancel my Telkom line completely and reapply for a new one.
-Cancel old line.
-apply for new line.
-wait 21 days phone and escalate the new line installation.
-The next day Telkom shows up and installs the line.

According to Telkom's call center it takes 3-4 months to transfer a line. I find it dumb that it takes longer to push buttons on a computer then it does to physically install a new line to your house but this is Telkom.

you can try http://www.wapa.org.za/coverage/request/ but don't expect to much from them.
