I give up on Virgin

Off topic sorry for derailing....but can someone post a link to how does one actually start the process of porting to Virgin?

Best way is probably to speak to Virgin, they have to request the port from your existing network, if you're still locked into a contract it can get complicated though.

EUREKA

After six months of complaining it would now seem that all has been resolved with a simple sim swop-this is one to remember guys- first look at the sim before you jump through hoops-

I am merily posting from my laptop using my edge card and 128 k sim

Halleluha

Virgin- come home all is forgiven

GTVM- thanks for the e-mails - I appreciate it

VirginM sim with MTNdata card

I am using a 128K VMobile sim with a MTN HSDPA datacard and desktop PC without any problems for 2 days now, without any problems. Touch wood, I am new in this wireless game LOL.

I bought a Virgin simcard for data purposes. Must say that i havnt had any trouble with signal.

I'm using my old cellphone which only has GPRS, but i'm getting 4kb/sec on the conenction.

They are a new company..guess they still have to work out some problems. But if you looking for cheap GPRS access...use Virgin.

Just give it some time friend......................Future posts will be different......;)

Virgin good for us

Must agree with everybody that complains about speed, connection issues. However whats the alternative? MTN's data bundles that only give you a month to use your gig?Been there.I feel it necessary for us to give them this negative publicity, they want every tom, dick and harry on the network, then they cant cope with the vast amount of traffic.I noticed its always so damn hard for me to connect to virgin between 7pm and 10pm and then i start swearing at all those damn mixit kids !@##ING up the bandwidth.By the way on sunday Virgin charged me only 1cent for 72mb!then monday back to normal.happened when i put the sim in and said it couldnt register my sim.I will figure out how to get internet "cheaper",and wont pay some flake 50rand for the bogus proxy.

The alternative is to give up on wireless data altogether. Since I have ADSL, I have little use for GPRS, except for MXit and checking my email on the go. Networks in SA are too backward to implement the service properly and, as long as we accept the crummy service, nothing will change. Complain as much as possible - it will pay off eventually. Maybe not even in our lifetimes, but someday it will. At the moment my Virgin GPRS is fine, so I have nothing to complain about personally.

After struggling for months with Virgin Mobile I'm back with MTN. With MTN's new data tariffs it is the best value for money available. I make use of the R250 for 500MB which matches VM's 50c/MB rate. I know that you cannot really compare because VM's offering don't have bundles but for the quality of service and speed I am willing to pay te premium.

With MTN's new contract offer of 2GB for less than R500, not even Telkom can compete! Well done MTN - now the others can follow (or try to).

Virgin came to the market with Customer Service as their focus point. They failed horribly on this one! Tatta VM, Yello MTN!

Who did you speak to at 123. Get a name and share it. + Record the conversation so there can be no argument.

The guys at 123 don't know a lot about data, so get them to contact data support for you.

Insist they actually do it rather than just tell you "there's no problem with GPRS", 'coz this is often a thubsuck in my experience. They just want to get shot of you so they can have a high call-rate.

Oh, and don't wait for a callback. It'll never happen.
(Shane, shane, shaneeeeee, you listening. )

How about starting a site, where members can upload all the recorded calls with their experiences with the customer care of all networks... see if that wakes the networks up if they see how bad their service actually is
