Looks like there is no specific Blackberry Hate thread on myBB, so Im starting one. If I get no replies, then it's all still OK, I just need to rant albeit just to remind myself never to buy this POS again.
Sure millions will buy BB in RSA, but millions voted for the ruling party too - doesn't mean they're right.

I know millions love it, are there other locals who despise Blackberry?

Yeah absolutely hate them as well. The majority of people I know who own a BB go on about how much they suck as well.

A year ago I went against the tide with a Samsung when everyone of my friends was telling me to get a BB. Now they say I was right.

feel good man.

:p:wtf:
traded my bb for a blast from the past a NOKIA E90 still up there with the best and to me its does more than that bb
:D

I do too. Worthless pieces of crap. Not even good enough as a spare phone. BIS is over-rated (unless you're a big time abuser) and BBM is closed-platform.

got a nokia lumia 900 not long ago. still use an E63 and 5230 as well and i'm still happy. a phone is a phone. it must call, sms and go on the internet quickly if i need to. and nokia always served me great.

thank heavens its not just me

How about having "unlimited" internet, but not being able to actually to anything like streaming or youtube or online radio?

How about default browser not allowing such a little thing such as "javascript" (who ever heard of that silly little thing?)

Just look at these "top" free games? http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/topfree/category/1/?lang=en - this is like buying Adibas instead of Adidas
vs http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...phones/50-best-free-android-games-2012-687718

How about not even being able to open a PDF if you have saved it? Oh you can but you'll have to pay R50 for a proper app for that.

Plenty good reasons for a BB. Even though I'm an android fan, BB is still the most secure device and free internet is still a big plus in out backwards country. Having a hardware keyboard is still insanely useful.

I find that people who complain about BB do because the have bought a cheap smart phone (and a lower end BB) and expect it to do things a grown up smart phone does. The cheap BBs are cheap because they have small CPUs and small amounts of RAM to keep the price low.

I think BB has done loads to bring internet to the masses.

Some things I dont like are; overused network, low amount of apps, closed BBM platform.

Just a heads up, I got an infraction for saying the same things about Nokia.

No one is really interested in your rant unless you have something specific to complain about

I also hate BB. And everyone I know that got one of those insanely expensive 9900 bolds are also moaning. Even though they are on 3G, it takes them literally 10-15 minutes for a single web page to open up.

My friend sometimes wants to show me an interesting news article but it takes so long that we forget what we were talking about and never end up looking at the article.

Changed mine for an iPhone - I spend about R200 on data p/m (unfortunately with MTN on this one, soon to move to Cell C) but it flies - any page will open in a few seconds.

I also love how you see BB users having to take out their batteries every now and again to restart the phone - I've never had to do that with my iPhone - can't even take out the battery!

Oh and my absolutely favorite pet hate - having to restart your BB after installing an app! haha! On iPhone you click, download in 3 seconds and you're using the app.

And I don't want Android haters shouting at me for using/praising iPhone - Android is amazing too and everything positive I mentioned above about iPhone goes for Android too.

EDIT: I forgot to mention - love it that the web page opens up on the blackberry (eventually after long wait) and then to do a simple zoom of the page, takes another 2 minutes (as it has to download a better quality of the images to be able to zoom them!). while on other phones, you pinch and zoom - takes 0.0000000001 seconds to zoom and read!

EDIT 2: Oooh, I forgot my favourite one - on iPhone when someone sends you an email you get it instantly via exchange push (or Gmail). It literally happens the moment the person press the send button. My work colleague gets the same email 15 minutes later when BB syncs his mailbox. Sometimes I have already resolved an issue then he starts with it! :-)

the two biggest things that the blackberry offers.....BIS and BBM

The cellc and 8ta data deals have to an extent made BIS irrelevant
and as for BBM ..everyone on a BB uses whatsapp...

other than that...no flash ..apps not good enough and syncing an email is pretty much a standard feature of every smartphone......so in a smart world the Blackberry is the least smart..lol

The biggest myth about Blackberry is that internet access is free, and unlimited. It's not.

BIS costs R60, and has so many restrictions, you'll probably end up paying over R100 in out of bundle costs if you're not careful, if you didn't know that video streaming, audio streaming, VoIP, certain downloads, apps, games and other items are not covered by BIS, and incur out of bundle costs. Basically, you can't use any smartphone features.

BIS in RSA is also damn slow due to congestion on the international BIS links that the local operators have with RIM in Canada. The average BB user as reported by Vodacom last year uses about 120MB of data per month. R60 / 120mb = 50c per mb. Cell C have standard data rates of 15c per mb, and depending on data bundle size and package from other operators, you can get even cheaper rates than this.

Not sure if I actually hate BB, but it's time has certainly past. A few years ago it may have been the leading smartphone, but that time is now long gone - RIP BB...

Its saved me a few penny's.
Good for business use, but its a secondary phone.
