I hate ITunes

The Stockholm syndrome is a term in psychology which describes the phenomenon in which a hostage gets sympathy for the hostage-taker. Many iPhone users would also suffer a phenomenon such as Danish analysts believe. Strand Consulting has selected how iPhone users defend the shortcomings of their phone and accept. According to analysts, this one closely resembling those which suffer from the Stockholm syndrome. Missing features were dismissed without any sound at.
Same could be said about Nokia users, BB users, Opel drivers, Nazi's.... etc,etc,etc.... Nobody likes to admit they were duped or sold a lemon....

No it said Coldplay FREE single this morning, but it displayed it as 99p on the page below the FREE MUSIC section.

Now it says Charlene Soraia .

I had a choice when I got the iPad which tablet I should get. I didn't want to feel like I was missing out on perhaps another better Android tab so I went to IC and spent a while testing out the different ones, talked to some owners of the Tab 10.1, etc. I even brought along someone who wasn't technically inclined for a second opinion. What I came away from that is, there actually isn't even one tablet that is competition for the iPad; not one. There are plenty of phones that are as good as the iPhone, even better depending on preferences - I'd rather have an SGS2 than an iPhone4... but iPad stands alone.

I believe you, but many won't -- which doesn't mean they're wrong or that the iPad is not good; to the contrary healthy competition is what will push further innovation, hopefully to our benefit.

Well I am inclined to agree with him. Android up till now did not have real competition against the iPads, well that is if you can live with the locked down nature. If you can not you have to compromise in some way.

  • In hardware the Samsung 10.1 is the closest but man is the Android they have on it buggy, I played on one in the shops and actually wondered if people would buy such crap esp seeing that it cost more.
  • In software the ASUS Eee Pad was for me still the best experience but its a monster in size when compared to the iPad, hell its even bigger than my 1st gen iPad.

Why I said up till now, well if ASUS new Prime can keep the OS as smooth as the 1st gen with the same 9+ hour battery life then we finally would have something that can compete esp in the same light weight and sturdy design, but then again there is a draw back, they only releasing WiFi units for now.

Yip, that's my biggest complaint (I own one) -- it's such a terrible experience (especially based on the number of times its OS freezes / locks up). Really not sure how they could justify bringing it to market -- the only hope left for 10.1 is ICS.

The other biggest draw back for me on Android is of course my pet hate (the lag), not to be outdone by the lack of tablet designed apps.

Hardware wise the prime absolutely destroys the iPad 2 in a number of key areas but then i still wouldnt buy one because within the next 4 months or so the iPad 3 will come out with its quad core cpu as well as the fabled retina display. Not having that display is going to be a major downer for every other tablet owner.

By the time android tablets catch with with the ipad3's display they will probably be on par with apple's offering because hopefully by then the android tablet app ecosystem is fully developed. Things should be very interesting come 2013. I suspect by then things will be more equal. For now, Android just lacks way to many tablet apps.

Spec wars dont carry much weight when you compare it to OS and hardware that have been tailor-made for each other.

Agreed, that why i qualified my statement with the use of the word hardware. Its called diplomacy :p

Although it must be said tegra 3 is a beast, and i'm sure it can overcome any android inefficiencies to still win the performance crown by a huge margin. But without apps(games) what would be the point?

Fragmentation is a huge problem.

Hardware specs will always be a leapfrog area and some vendors use only hardware specs as their only differentiator; even Samsung and Motorola have realized that they need to do more to secure customers.

In my case (with the Tab 10.1) I find it hard to understand how Samsung could release such a bad example of Android onto the market with their supposedly top end tablet entry.

I have worked with many other Android devices, and honestly they're a breath of fresh air compared with this.

In the end I still believe the IOS bundle is the better deal as typically nothing typically leaves their stable without "spit and polish".

... but I think we've possibly wandered quite far off the topic in this thread, yes I've played a part in this digression ;)

I was actually referring to build quality, seeing that my ASUS Eee 1st Gen is already more than what I need. I have no slow downs and very little if any frame drops. The only thing I wish the Eee had was the finish of the Samsung Galaxy 10.1. Its just a monster in size and face it that plastic finish appeals to no one.

Well that is what the Prime comes with so hence my statement that its the 1st real contender for the iPad vs iOS debate. Yes I know the new iPad 3 will have higher res but to be honest the current resolution on Android 10.1 is perfect esp seeing that it comes with HDMI on the tablet and that same resolution gets ported to your TV. If it was any higher it would not have worked or it would have caused an issues when resizing the applications. Now I am sounding like an fan defending decisions... oh well.

I might also look at getting the iPad 3, seeing that I skipped a generation, but to be honest I still found no reason to. The only reason iPad is more and more losing in my books is because Apple is hell bent on locking it down. If the iPad 2's jailbreak was just as easy as the 1st, I probably would have kept mine at the start of the year. Lets hope Apple dont make it any worse on the 3rd try than the current one.

The 10.1 finish is good, but IMO not as good as the iPad2. Sorry but because of the Tab I have a distinct dislike for anything Samsung at the moment.

lol, don't we all at some time sound like that... In your defense your arguments are sound... But don't let that be a reason to now get out of hand...;)

I doubt Apple will let things slide, competition has increased significantly, and if the Amazon fire in particular takes off, I'd expect to see Apple bring out a few more form factors. Overall the market is looking very healthy.

Btw The "jail" that appears to bug many others has never been a concern to me, I JB'd and rooted devices many times in the past and have now decided to forgo the hassle and just use it the way in which it was provided; developing for the platforms requires me to rather focus on the result on stock products rather than modded.

I dont blame you, the bit I played with it I am glad I went Eee pad but face it Samsung's build is way better and Old ASUS Eee's plastic back and glass top joined with a metal rim. At least the Prime looks a hell of a lot better.

Because of my love for all things Open Source like VLC and XBMC I just need my JB way to much.

I'm also kinda jealous of the Xoom guys; Samsung I really hate you at the moment... :(
Really hope they don't take too long with ICS + that they do a decent job of porting it.

Yes I can kinda relate; I miss not having the SBSettings on my iPhone, and the new BBSettings look really good. To be honest on my Mac I never use VLC considering Perian does a wonderful job of making QuickTime enjoyable; the rest of my content needs are covered by my Mac Mini with streaming from BBC iPlayer, Hulu and Netflix (Xmbc, Plex and Boxee have fallen by the way side)

Btw Which computer do you have, Mac or PC?

Portable: I had a Macbook Air some time ago(1st Gen), but swapped it for a Gaming Laptop(Now my Media Center PC) as I could not get the hang of OSX, its just not for me ;) Gaming laptop now running Linux + XBMC because it has IR support.

Desktop: Home build Gaming monster i7-965 and 8 Gig ram and 2X480 in SLI with 3 x 24" screens <-- Spot the gameoholic. Dual Boot Linux/Win 7 I have a Hacentosh VM in VirtualBox.

I guess the lack of Lion explains my hate for iTunes :)

Lol yes, you sound possibly like you could have a game addiction ;)
I'm pretty happy in most of the OS worlds, but OSX is my favorite; my set-up for home/work currently has:
  • 2 x Mac minis (1 for each TV),
  • 27" i7 iMac (16Gb RAM and 1Gb GPU) -- yes I don't mind a game or two; but it's also my primary desktop,
  • i7 15" MacBook Pro for portability to visit clients,
  • 2 x Dell PowerEdge servers running Linux (Ubuntu & SUSE)
  • Touchscreen Nixdorf PC with Windows XP
  • + many VM's for the different environments

Strange that you couldn't find a liking to OSX, it very close to Linux and with things like macports and Fink its almost the same, except of course the UI, which I prefer OSX. KDE is however my second favorite.

Well maybe this will explain it better:

I am an Enlightenment/Blackbox user that use to run Window Maker till it died. So not very fond of this whole Gnome/KDE/Windows Aero/Metro crap. You know that old school knob that dont wanna move with the times ;)

I even use Blackbox as my Win 7 UI. Its esp useful when running multiple monitors as you dont have to navigate to a single position to get app menu's. Its a simple right click wherever you are and there it is.

Oh and I still copy files using command line instead of opening an explorer app, so guess that explains my need for JB and Android. It also helps when my main job function is working with servers all over the world asif I am sitting at the physical box.

Actually I've never tried or used either, but as a long standing Mac user (since 1984), I can agree that it's difficult to change from something once you've got used to it.

The Windows environment serves me well financially but I keep it securely in a VM. Ubuntu's new Unity sucks, so does IMO Gnome 3; KDE still serves me well when I need a Linux DE, but nothing for me is quite like OSX cocoa, from a dev perspective I'm overall more comfortable/productive in terminal / CMD in all the environments...

I can understand the need to use a different DE when you have 3 monitors -- one of my biggest pet hates with OSX Lion is the lack of proper multi monitor support; OSX leopard was so much better (sadly that went backward with Lion).

You should give that hackintosh some more processor time, sure you'll be at home once you get over the initial newbie thing.
